The LA Clippers may have some returning faces, but it is a very new team this season
While everyone immediately assumed that the LA Clippers would be one of the best teams in the Western Conference this season, the truth is that the roster is comprised of many new pieces.
With the team being relatively new, comes the need for extra time for all players to acclimate to one another. Among those new pieces if new Clippers big man John Collins.
When it came to which Clipper players fans were most excited to see this upcoming season, Collins was near the top of the list - especially because of his perfect fit with the team.
However, Collins will be one of the first to tell fans that the roster should still be treated as very new.
Collins' Thoughts on his New Clippers Teammates
For John Collins, the biggest key he's focusing on right now is just getting to learn who his teammates are as people before anything.
"It's just spending time with each other more and more," Collins said. "Again, this is a new team, it's not a team that's been together for a while. So, obviously, have a lot of experienced guys, spend damn near every day near each other. Just getting accustomed to each other, it's no specific that we're doing outside of trying to understand who we are as teammates."
How Many New Pieces Are There?
Last season, the key members of the LA Clippers were: James Harden, Norman Powell, Kawhi Leonard, Derrick Jones Jr., Ivica Zubac, Kris Dunn, Bogdan Bogdanovic, Amir Coffey, Nicolas Batum, and Ben Simmons. As the season progressed into the playoffs, rotations were trimmed down, but those were the players who played throughout the regular season.
This season, the Clippers have added John Collins, Chris Paul, Brook Lopez, and Bradley Beal. While the Clippers still have a plethora of key players from last season remaining, all of their new players are also key rotation players who are trying to mix with the old.
© Kirby Lee-Imagn ImagesIn the times when the Clippers have lost games so far this season, it hasn't been due to being old, it's because of the team's lack of continuity with each other. The team has looked absolutely lost at times, both offensively and defensively, but hopefully, that's something that'll change with more time. Those moments specifically come when the team tries out lineups with new players.
If not, then the Clippers will have serious decisions to make after the first 20 games of the season.
