Los Angeles shot 63% from the field, making 52 field goals on 36 assists. They were dialed in from three, shooting 51% from beyond the arc, knocking down 19 of their 37 attempts.
They went 30-36 from the free throw line for 83%. They also came up with 21 turnovers, including 14 steals, leading to 28 points.
After the game, Clippers All-Star Kawhi Leonard explained what went right for the Clippers offense against the Timberwolves.
“We made threes tonight. I feel like I got to the free throw line, drawing two on the ball, kicking out, making the right plays. Obviously, early on, we got a lot of deflections, getting us out in transition, getting easy dunks and layups, so that pretty much carried us over throughout the game," he said.
Kawhi had a dominant game, scoring 45 points while shooting 15-20 from the field, 6-9 from three, and 9-10 from the free throw line.
Seven different Clippers players made at least one three point shot, with Darius Garland going 5-9 and Bennedict Mathurin going 2-4.
The Timberwolves scored the first basket of the game, but the Clippers responded with a Derrick Jones Jr dunk, a Jones Jr steal, and a Garland three. After a Timberwolves miss and two more turnovers, Kawhi scored on a dunk, Brook Lopez knocked down a three, and Kawhi got another dunk to make it a 12-2 game.
The Timberwolves never recovered.
Garland has played in five games for the Clippers, and they are 5-0 in those contests. He's averaging 17.8 points, 5.8 assists, and 2.4 rebounds while shooting 45% from three on 7.4 attempts.
He came off the bench in the first two games, but has started the last three. As a starter, he's averaging 21.7 points and 6.3 assists while shooting 50% from three on 8.7 attempts per game.
It's a small sample size, but the Clippers have the best offense in the league with Garland in the starting lineup, putting up a 134 offensive rating. The Spurs are second with a 128.7 offensive rating.
The lineup of Kawhi, Garland, and Mathurin has a 147 offensive rating and a 101.6 defensive rating. Garland was acquired for James Harden at the trade deadline, while Mathurin was acquired for Ivica Zubac.
The Clippers are eleventh on the season in offensive rating on season, but the additions of Garland and Mathurin, along with Kawhi's continued stellar play, have made them much more difficult to handle.
