Both teams will be without some important pieces as injuries continue to shape the Western Conference landscape.
Houston enters Thursday's game at 15-6 and sitting fourth in the Western Conference after building one of the league's best two-way units around their offseason acquisition of Kevin Durant.
The Clippers, meanwhile, have struggled mightily at 6-18 and find themselves 14th in the West while dealing with a wave of injuries that have derailed their early season hopes.
Who's Out for the Clippers
Los Angeles will be without Derrick Jones Jr. and Bradley Beal on Thursday night.
Jones suffered a sprained MCL in his right knee back on November 16 during a collision with Jaylen Brown in a loss to the Boston Celtics, and the 28-year-old forward will be sidelined until at least late December when he gets reevaluated.
The good news for Los Angeles is that Kawhi Leonard has returned to the lineup in full health after missing 10 games earlier this season with ankle and foot issues.
Since coming back in late November, he's been playing at a high level and averaging over 25 points per game while looking like his old self on both ends of the floor.
James Harden continues to carry a heavy load as well, putting up 26.8 points and 8.3 assists per game while leading the charge through LA's difficult stretch.
Who's Out for the Rockets
Houston will be without Tari Eason, Dorian Finney-Smith, and Fred VanVleet on Thursday.
Finney-Smith hasn't played a single game this season after undergoing ankle surgery shortly after signing with the Rockets during the offseason.
He's been ramping up his activity in recent weeks and could make his Houston debut sometime in January if his recovery continues on track.
Eason has been sidelined with an oblique strain since late November and is targeting a late December return as the team exercises caution with the young forward's injury.
The Rockets do get some good news heading into Thursday, as Sengun has been cleared to play after missing two games with an illness.
The 23-year-old big man returned to practice earlier this week and was on fire before getting sick, averaging 28.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 7.3 assists over his final three games before the illness struck.
On the season, he's putting up 23.1 points, 9.1 rebounds, and 7.1 assists per game while shooting over 50 percent from the floor.
What It Means for Thursday
Despite their injury woes, the Rockets have managed to stay among the West's elite thanks to their strong two-way play and the leadership of Durant, who's averaging around 25 points per game in his first season with Houston.
Getting Sengun back gives them one of the league's most dangerous frontcourt combinations and should help them bounce back from Saturday's loss in Dallas.
For the Clippers, keeping Leonard and Harden healthy remains the top priority as they try to climb back into the playoff picture.
Los Angeles has lost four of their last five games and desperately needs to find some consistency, but getting their full roster healthy seems like a distant goal at this point in the season.
Tipoff is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. ET at Toyota Center.
