Other teams are frustrated by the Aspiration investigation too.

The NBA’s investigation into the Los Angeles Clippers and Kawhi Leonard is perplexing for a number of reasons, most of all the actual length of the investigation itself, which began in September 2025 and could drag on into next season.

An investigation of an issue of this magnitude that involves one of the sport’s biggest stars and richest owners is a delicate situation that does warrant care, but the trickle effects of the destination and the time that’s its taken are jamming things up for teams outside of the Clippers and that’s the aspect of the situation that is being found most frustrating.

The most significant ripple effect is the fact that the investigation has effectively put a hold on the Clippers’ trade if Leonard to the Toronto, but the fact that other teams are now involved hasn’t seemed to speed up the process at all.

Other GM's Speak Up

“It’s crazy that the Kawhi [Leonard] investigation has taken so long,” a Western Conference GM said (via Spotrac). “If this was just the Clippers and Kawhi, that would be one thing. But it’s now spread to the Raptors to other players and teams, because LA has put some other stuff on hold. It’s pretty aggravating.”

At this point, there’s no clear timeline for the conclusion of the investigation, at this point primarily because the NBA is being thorough to a fault to avoid a legal challenge from Steve Ballmer and the Clippers that could drag on even longer, so the Clippers and Raptors will simply have to bide their time.

But that creates its own set of issues because of the the fact that both teams have players that they’ve agreed to exchange at some point, so should the investigation continue through next season it becomes a question of how do both teams manage those players.

Uncertain Times

The uncertainty that’s being created by the investigation adds apprehension to other front offices that are trying to do business, at least any business with the Clippers or the Raptors.

Things won’t go back to normal until this investigation is concluded, but simply sitting still isn’t the situation that the Clippers want to be in right now as they’re in the midst of an aggressive rebuild and ideally want to keep up that effort, but the uncertainty introduced by the investigation makes that difficult.

The investigation will come to an end at some point, but until then the Clippers are in a difficult spot and with a conclusion still up in the air at this point, their plans have to be on hold to a certain extent and while their frustration with the investigation was already evident, it seems that frustration has extended to other front offices across the league as well.
