For the past year, Kawhi Leonard has dominated the NBA news cycle with his never-ending investigation of the Aspiration cap circumvention scandal. Now that Leonard has been implicated in yet another scandal with Daktronics, fans seem more riled up than ever to learn what a potential punishment should be.

One particular fan and analyst in general, Stephen A. Smith, believes that the NBA should come down very hard on both Kawhi Leonard and the LA Clippers.

While speaking on First Take, Smith claimed that the Clippers were in a "world of trouble." He then went on to reveal the list of punishments he hopes the NBA will take against both Leonard and the franchise.

Smith stated that he wants Steve Ballmer banned from attending Clippers games for at least a year, Kawhi Leonard should also be banned for at least a year, the Clippers' draft picks confiscated, and the NBA should void Kawhi Leonard's contract.

What Smith wants from the NBA is the harshest punishment possible that anyone has suggested. His desire would cripple the Clippers in the toughest way possible, while also actually preventing Leonard from getting what he wants. If Kawhi Leonard simply has his contract voided, it would hurt the Clippers more than it would hurt him, but if he's suspended for the year that it's voided, then it would actually hurt Leonard.

It's really hard to see what exactly the NBA does about this current predicament. It's taken a year for the league to barely even address the situation, and it feels like they're deliberately taking time because they don't want to actually punish Leonard or the Clippers.

With the way the salary cap is currently constructed, it's detrimental to teams, and having players like Jalen Brunson or Victor Wembanyama take pay cuts just so that they can build rosters. Even teams that naturally created their rosters, like the Oklahoma City Thunder or Denver Nuggets, are having to shed key players for cap space.

It feels likely that the NBA would serve Kawhi Leonard some sort of suspension that could be in the form of 20-30 games, and that the trade between the Clippers and Raptors will still go through.

Regardless, this current problem is one that the league created itself, and it shouldn't surprise anyone if every team has been secretly making deals like this. For that reason alone, that's why it feels like the league doesn't really want to open Pandora's Box.
