Who could the Los Angeles Clippers get for Kawhi Leonard?
The Los Angeles Clippers are at a crossroads of sorts as they traded James Harden and Ivica Zubac during the regular season to get younger pieces in Darius Garland and Bennedict Mathurin.
They also got some lottery luck, landing the fifth overall pick from the Indiana Pacers as part of the Zubac trade.
With three young pieces in place, they still have Kawhi Leonard, who will be 35 when the 2026-27 season starts, and though he's coming off his healthiest season in years and statistically one of his best seasons ever, his durability has always been questioned given his injury history.
It's possible the Clippers want to continue to get younger, which would mean moving on from Leonard.
With that in mind, who could the Clippers realistically target in potentially trading Leonard?
As a disclaimer, none of these would be one-for-one trades. The players listed below are simply star players the Clippers would get in addition to potential rotation players, salary filler, and draft picks, as Kawhi is the most valuable player in all of these hypothetical trades.
Domantas Sabonis
The Sacramento Kings are in need of some kind of shake up after trading De'Aaron Fox and watching Mike Brown bring the New York Knicks to the NBA Finals. They've made the playoffs just once since 2006 and were ousted in the first round in their lone trip in 2023.
Trading for Kawhi Leonard would set them up for a potential playoff return, even if it's a short-term investment.
In getting Sabonis, the Clippers get a versatile big man to pair with Garland and Mathurin who will open things open for them offensively. He just turned 30, so he does have a couple more years on those two, but he's more suited to their timeline than Kawhi.
Brandon Ingram
Though the Toronto Raptors had a good season and Ingram was an All-Star, he's not untouchable in trade talks, and Leonard is a clear upgrade for the next season. Ingram struggled in the playoffs, and Kawhi would have been a difference maker in the first round series against Cleveland.
For Los Angeles, Ingram is younger and has a similar skillset to Kawhi. He would slot right next to Garland and Mathurin without either having to change too much, but also presenting them with more opportunities as Ingram doesn't need the ball in his hands quite as well.
Jaylen Brown
If the Celtics are serious about moving Brown, this would be a no-brainer for the Clippers, though Leonard wouldn't actually be the most valuable asset in this deal as Brown is just as good, if not better, than Kawhi and he's younger.
Brown is on the same timeline as Garland and Mathurin, and makes the team better with his two-way play.
