The shorthanded LA Clippers kept it competitive with the Oklahoma City Thunder for three quarters before completely collapsing in the fourth

On Tuesday night, the LA Clippers had an incredibly tough task ahead of them. Without Kawhi Leonard, on the second night of a back-to-back, the team had to face the undefeated reigning champion Oklahoma City Thunder.

When the game began, it seemed like the Clippers had a legitimate shot at winning, especially with Harden scoring 12 points in under 3 minutes. LA remained competitive until everything completely fell apart in the fourth quarter when the Thunder went on a 29-6 run.

    Clippers vs Thunder highlights

After the game, Clippers head coach Ty Lue addressed what went wrong against the Thunder.

Ty Lue Addresses What Went Wrong

“Yeah, it got dangerous just playing those guys," Lue admitted. "You know, so many minutes on a back-to-back so early in the season. I thought we came out with the right intent, zero turnovers in the first quarter."

While the Clippers gave themselves a decent lead in the first quarter, their second quarter immediately proceeded with multiple turnovers.

"Then we had eight in the second quarter which allowed them to get back into the game," Lue said. "And then, just some covers where we just messed up and they got open shots, after open shot, after open shot."

    Ty Lue speaks postgame

On Monday night, after losing to the Heat, Lue blasted his team for constantly committing live-ball turnovers. Unfortunately, the message was the same on Tuesday night as well.

"We got to clean those things up, but coming into the game I thought our intent was really good. I thought that second quarter, their pressure kind of hurt us, kind of sped us up. We couldn’t get into our sets and kind of took us out of our offense and our rhythm as well," Lue said.

    No Consistency?

After the game on Tuesday, Lue was also asked about being able to have consistent lineups on the floor and changing his starting lineup. In Lue's eyes, the Clippers still haven't gotten a fair shake at what works through seven games because Bradley Beal has been out three games and is still on a minutes restriction.

“We haven’t gotten there yet, you know. Brad [Bradley Beal], he’s on his minute restriction," Lue said. "Now, Kawhi [Leonard] was out today so we really haven’t had the chance to get to our full potential as far as lineups and things like that. So, we just gotta be patient, let our guys get healthy and we’ll see what we have when those guys get healthy.”

In reality, it seems as though the clear solution is to put Kris Dunn in the starting lineup and potentially John Collins. However, knowing Lue and the Clippers, that probably won't happen until around game 20 when they've given Beal a proper amount of time.
