Tyronn Lue knows the turnovers are something his group needs to fix.
Turnovers have been a common issue for the Los Angeles Clippers at the start of the 2026-2027 season, and it was a problem again in their most recent game against the Los Angeles Lakers. The Clippers lost 103-87, and the team committed 24 turnovers.
After the game, Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue talked about the issue after the game, and he acknowledged that it's something that is fixable for this roster.
"I think it was kind of deflating early," Lue said. "We had a lot of unforced turnovers that we can take care of and have control over."
Jayne Kamin-Oncea-Imagn ImagesLue mentioned that the Clippers committed 4 turnovers through the first four minutes of the game, and it caused them to get down early in the game. In their first meeting against the Lakers earlier this season, turnovers were also a big reason as to why they lost.
Guard Darius Garland finished the game with 9 turnovers, and he took accountability, saying he was not putting himself in the best position to make the right play.
Still, the main reason as to why this Clippers team may be struggling to take care of the basketball is because of the lack of chemistry this team has. Los Angeles has had multiple new players come in since the middle of last season, and there are various players that are building chemistry with one another this season.
Jayne Kamin-Oncea-Imagn ImagesThe Clippers have also been dealing with injuries that occurred just before the start of the season. Forwards Brandon Ingram and Max Strus have yet to appear for the team this season, and they were slated to have big roles on this team.
Those injuries have caused more pressure to be applied to Rui Hachimura and Darius Garland. For Hachimura, this kind of attention is a lot different from what he's seen in previous seasons because he's never been the true focal point of a team.
Teams have to account for him because of his shooting ability and versatility, and this has caused him to have a tough start shooting the ball this season. This Clippers coaching staff will have to find ways to make life easier for Darius Garland and Hachimura by finding ways to get the rest of this roster open looks.
Jayne Kamin-Oncea-Imagn ImagesIt will be interesting to see if one of the young Clippers players, like Keaton Wagler, is able to step up at some point this season and be able to become another reliable offensive option.
