Keaton Wagler needs reps early and often.

This preseason, the Los Angeles Clippers have cycled through different players as they're getting used to all the new faces on the roster this season. One player that many have their eyes on is rookie guard Keaton Wagler.

So far, Wagler has averaged 12 points per game, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. While the numbers look good through his first two preseason games, his shooting efficiency has been an issue for him.

In their most recent matchup against the Golden State Warriors, Wagler shot just 3-15 from the field. His teammate Darius Garland credited him days after the game for not losing his confidence in the midst of his struggles, but that's a number the Clippers would like to see change.

Los Angeles plays their next preseason game against the Denver Nuggets on October 14th, and with the regular season fast approaching, this is a game where the Clippers should insert Wagler into the starting lineup.

After a tough shooting night like that, it's clear Keaton Wagler is not a polished player just yet. While he possesses great offensive skills, there are other areas of his game that need to improve. Another element of his game that needs to improve is his overall pace.

For many rookies coming into the NBA, the pace at which the game is played could be faster for them than expected. It's important for the Clippers to give Wagler those starting reps so that he can get used to the NBA's game speed.

Keaton Wagler came into the league knowing he needed to build a bigger frame to be able to compete with physical NBA centers as well. While gaining weight will help, he will also need to continue to get reps driving to the basket and taking chances at drawing fouls and getting to the line.

It will also help to be out there with veterans like Darius Garland and forward Rui Hachimura. Both players have quietly taken charge of being the leaders of this group, and Wagler could be more productive playing off the ball from them.

The overall encouragement they may give him could also add a big boost. If they allow Keaton Wagler to play at his own pace and set him up for opportunities to succeed, he could have a great rookie season. This next preseason game will be an opportunity for Wagler to bounce back and showcase his ability to help the Clippers this season.
