The Los Angeles Clippers were once the oldest team on average in the NBA at the start of the 2025-2026 season. The Clippers had a slow start to the season, in large part due to injuries, and after some midseason moves, they made a late push to the Play-In Tournament and finished the season 42-40. 

A lot of success came from Kawhi Leonard getting healthy after their slow start. Leonard was awarded All-NBA Second Team honors, making it his seventh career All-NBA team. 

The Clippers hold the fifth overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, and with the direction the franchise is heading, there's a chance Kawhi Leonard could be traded away any time between this summer and the 2027 trade deadline. Former Clippers guard Lou Williams wants to see Leonard play in Miami once he leaves Los Angeles. 

Lou Williams mentioned how intimidating the Miami Heat could be on paper if they were to add Kawhi Leonard to the roster. If the Heat could bring in Giannis Antetokounmpo and Kawhi Leonard, they add a championship pedigree, something they haven't had in years. 

The third member of that big three would be Bam Adebayo, who has continued to be the Heat's most reliable player in recent years. Miami has been looking to find stability within the roster alongside Adebayo, and adding players like Kawhi and Giannis could fix that. 

In terms of what Kawhi Leonard could do, this is a situation where he could thrive. Leonard would be playing with two all-star-caliber players who have experience playing deep into the playoffs. 

Leonard is 34 years old, and after he bounced back from his nagging injuries early in the 2025-2026 season, he showed he can still play at an elite level regardless of age. If Los Angeles were to trade Kawhi, it would likely be to a contending team, and a Miami team that has Giannis and Bam Adebayo fits that criteria. 

Kawhi can still provide a lot of production on offense, as he averaged just under 28 points per game. He was able to take over games for the Clippers when needed to, and with Giannis and Bam, he won't have as much pressure to take matters into his hands. 

The Clippers have some decisions to make about the veterans on their roster this offseason, and trading Kawhi Leonard is not impossible if they get the right value in return.
