There was a lot of doubt about whether the Miami Heat were a playoff team this year. But they've gotten off to a 5-0 start at home after a dramatic 140-138 overtime victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday night, and they are turning into believers.

It was a thrilling win, too, with the Heat drawing up the perfect inbounds play with time about to run out in overtime. There was plenty of movement, and then Andrew Wiggins broke free to the basket, where Evan Mobley with a perfect lob at the rim. He dunked at the buzzer and the Heat had another win.

The Heat have been 5-0 at home only twice before in franchise history, joining 2012-13 when they won the NBA title,) and the 2019-20 season when Miami lost in the NBA Finals.

These two teams met in the first round of the NBA playoffs a year ago, and it was the most lopsided four-game series in league history. Cleveland won 138-83 to finish off a four-game sweep with a total victory margin of 122 points.

“It was very humbling,” Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. “It was embarrassing.”

This is a different season, of course, and it was a huge win for the Heat, who were playing without starters Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro. But Norman Powell scored 33 points, Wiggins had 23 points and Jaime Jaquez Jr. had 22 off the bench. Kel'el Ware had 14 points and 20 rebounds in 32 minutes with no turnovers.

The Heat are 7-4 now and only the Detroit Pistons (9-2) have more wins in the Eastern Conference. The two teams play again on Wednesday night in Miami
