Dallas Mavericks star Kyrie Irving spoke on Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant
Dallas Mavericks star Kyrie Irving has experienced his own team suspension, having been away from the Brooklyn Nets earlier this season for sharing a film that contained antisemitic content. Regularly open with his thoughts, the star point guard recently shared his thoughts on Ja Morant being kept away from the Memphis Grizzlies after flashing a gun on Instagram live.
"Ya'll saw what's going on," Irving said. "Come on, man. We don't even have to go into [Ja Morant]. We don't even have to go into that. We don't have to go into that, because [Ja Morant] is not the only person that's dealt with real life circumstances. He's not the only one, and he won't be the only one. So guess what I'm gonna do? I'm going to stand and make sure that I'm there for my family and for my friends. We all make mistakes. We all do things that we regret. But somehow when you're a celebrity and you're famous, you're underneath different rules."
Irving seemed to suggest that Morant is under a different set of rules than other people who make mistakes every single day, due his status as a professional athlete. It was a supportive tone from Irving, who acknowledged that mistakes were made, but questioned why people are under a different set of rules when they are famous.
