The Memphis Grizzlies will play a loaded Summer League schedule in July.
It's just about time for Summer League action in the NBA, and the Memphis Grizzlies are going to have a full plate when it comes to their schedule.
The Grizzlies will participate in Summer League games in both Salt Lake City and Las Vegas, giving them ample opportunities to get their youngsters some run.
They will get started in Salt Lake City on July 4, with that portion of their Summer League schedule looking like this:
- July 4 vs. Oklahoma City Thunder, 2 p.m. CT
- July 6 vs. Utah Jazz, 8 p.m. CT
- July 7 vs. Atlanta Hawks, 6 p.m. CT
The Grizzlies will then pivot and head to Las Vegas for a schedule that looks like this:
- July 10 vs. Chicago Bulls, 7 p.m. CT
- July 13 vs. Dallas Mavericks, 6 p.m. CT
- July 14 vs. Golden State Warriors, 6 p.m. CT
- July 16 vs. Atlanta Hawks, 7 p.m. CT
Memphis is also guaranteed to play at least one other game in Las Vegas in addition to the four that are already set.
While the Grizzlies are sure to give plenty of players opportunities to polish their skill sets and make statements once the games start this summer, many eyes will be on No. 3 overall pick Cameron Boozer.
Boozer, who needed just one season at Duke University to show the world that he was clearly ready for the next step, could become a new franchise cornerstone for the Grizzlies.
In his lone season at Duke, he averaged 22.5 points, 10.2 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game while shooting 55.6 percent from the field and 39.1 percent from beyond the arc. He was named the AP Player of the Year nationally and took home a laundry list of other personal accolades as well.
Summer League should give Memphis its first chance to see what the newcomer looks like on an NBA floor. The Grizzlies, who also made two other draft picks and have been actively signing undrafted free agents, will have plenty of roster spots to fill for their loaded Summer League schedule, so there will be no shortage of talent on display for the squad in July.
Recent seasons have been discouraging for fans in Memphis, but the organization is trying to turn a corner, and with so much new talent joining the fold, now may be a good time to flip the optimism switch.
