Cedric Coward said ball handling and creation have been development priorities as his role continues to evolve in his second Grizzlies season.

Cedric Coward is averaging 8.7 rebounds through six games of his second season with the Memphis Grizzlies. As a rookie, he averaged 5.9.

He has also made 15 of his 26 3-point attempts. Of those 15 makes, 14 came off assists, according to Basketball-Reference. His usage rate has dropped to 16.1% from 21.5% last season.

At the free-throw line, he is 4-of-6 in six games. Last season, he went 140-of-166 at the line.

"Just quickness, ultimately making sure, defensive quickness, lateral quickness, start-stop, stuff like that," Coward said. "Making sure you're just comfortable understanding the system. Obviously, ball handling is another thing, trying to become more of a creator. And honestly, just doing what you can to help the team win."

"I really can't," Coward continued. "I'm not going to detail what I did. But at the same time, I made sure to hit the points in my game that I knew were weaknesses and try to build them and build them until they become strengths of mine. And at the end of the day, really just trying to make impact winning plays on the court."
