The Grizzlies signed former NCAA assists leader Yuri Collins and waived Brendan Hausen days before training camp opens in Nashville.
The Memphis Grizzlies signed guard Yuri Collins and waived guard Brendan Hausen on Saturday, the team announced. The release did not include terms of the Collins contract.
Memphis signed Hausen on Sept. 25, the same day it waived D'Angelo Russell. Russell had come to Memphis from the Washington Wizards on July 8 in a six-team trade.
Memphis Hustle Acquired Collins' Rights Earlier This Month
On Sept. 1, the Memphis Hustle acquired Collins' returning player rights from the Long Island Nets in a three-team trade that also involved the Santa Cruz Warriors. The Hustle sent the rights to forward Tyler Burton to Santa Cruz and the rights to guard Joey Calcaterra to Long Island. The Grizzlies' G League affiliate also picked up a 2027 second-round pick from Santa Cruz.
Across three G League seasons with Santa Cruz and Long Island, Collins has appeared in 115 games with 66 starts. He has averaged 9.5 points, 2.9 rebounds, 7.2 assists, and 1.1 steals in 27.6 minutes.
The Golden State Warriors signed him to a 10-day contract on Feb. 19, 2025. He played two games as a reserve that season.
Golden State had twice signed Collins to Exhibit 10 deals before that, on Oct. 16, 2023, and Sept. 13, 2024, and waived him both times before the regular season. The Brooklyn Nets waived him Sept. 21, 2025, ahead of training camp.
Collins Led NCAA Division I in Assists Twice
Collins, 25, is listed at 6-foot and 190 pounds. He grew up in St. Louis and played four seasons at Saint Louis, where he was a two-time All-Atlantic 10 selection, before going undrafted in 2023.
In 2021-22 and again in 2022-23, he led NCAA Division I in assists. As a senior, he averaged 10.1 assists and finished with 324, breaking his own school single-season record. His 878 career assists are a Saint Louis and Atlantic 10 record.
On Nov. 30, 2022, he handed out 20 assists in an 80-63 win over Tennessee State. That broke his own school single-game record of 19, set against Boston College the season before, and matched the Atlantic 10 record.
Grizzlies Waive Brendan Hausen
Hausen, 22, is an Amarillo, Texas, native who played at Villanova from 2022 to 2024, Kansas State in 2024-25, and Iowa in 2025-26. He appeared in 120 college games with 33 starts, all of them at Kansas State, where he averaged 10.9 points and 2.5 rebounds and shot 38.8% from 3-point range. At Iowa, he averaged 4.0 points in 21 games off the bench.
After going undrafted in June, he played five Summer League games for Memphis. Hausen scored 21 points and went 5-of-11 from 3-point range in a 96-82 loss to the Atlanta Hawks on July 7 in Salt Lake City. On July 14 in Las Vegas, he scored 20 points off the bench on 6-of-8 shooting from deep in a 106-85 win over Golden State.
Grizzlies Open Training Camp in Nashville
The Grizzlies open training camp Sept. 29 at Belmont University in Nashville, the third straight year the team has held camp in the city. Camp runs through Oct. 2. Memphis holds an open practice at FedExForum on Oct. 4 and opens the preseason Oct. 5 at Atlanta.
