Ja Morant told GG Jackson to "just go do him" before Jackson posterized Victor Wembanyama — who answered with a dunk of his own — in Memphis' 123-98 loss to San Antonio.
GG Jackson had a question for Ja Morant at halftime of the Memphis Grizzlies' loss against the San Antonio Spurs: How do you dunk on Victor Wembanyama?
Morant's answer apparently got the job done.
"You from South Carolina, just go do him," Morant told Jackson.
The third-year forward got by Devin Vassell with a crossover and skied with a left-handed jam past the outstretched arms of the 7-foot-3 Wembanyama early in the second half at FedExForum, stopping to flex before getting back on defense.
However, a possession later, Wembanyama got his revenge. The Spurs star got Jackson in the air off a pump-fake and threw down a poster dunk.
"I only jumped because I figured if I was to get the block, that would've been crazy," Jackson said.
Jackson and Wembanyama are both in their third NBA seasons after being selected in the 2024 draft — Wembanyama went No. 1 overall, while Jackson was the 45th pick.
Jackson led the Grizzlies with 20 points. Olivier-Maxence Prosper scored 17, while DeJon Jarreau added 15 off the bench.
Wembanyama racked up 19 points, 15 rebounds, and seven blocks. Devin Vassell also scored 19, and Stephon Castle and Keldon Johnson each added 15 as seven Spurs finished in double figures in the 123-98 victory.
The Spurs' first play of the night was a lob to Wembanyama, and it only got worse from there. The Spurs blitzed the Grizzlies, leading 22-4 early. It escalated to 57-44 at halftime. It didn't stop until San Antonio was up by 34 by the end of the third quarter. San Antonio outscored Memphis in the paint 56-34 and won the rebounding battle 59-33.
Memphis had only 10 players active. Ja Morant, Zach Edey, and Brandon Clarke have all been shut down for the season after undergoing medical procedures. The Grizzlies have dropped 12 of their last 13 and won just four games since the All-Star break.
Memphis faces the Houston Rockets on Friday night at FedEx Forum.
