Memphis acquired Grant from the Portland Trail Blazers in the Ja Morant trade.
"Grant remains beyond talented enough to carve out a big role in Memphis this upcoming season, as the 32-year-old can space the floor from three and do some off-the-dribble scoring from the midrange, while being able to defend multiple positions on the other end of the floor," HoopsHype wrote. "If anything, Grant should be able to provide great leadership to the Grizzlies’ promising rookie and help him develop in practice."
For the Trail Blazers last season, Grant played in 57 games. He averaged 18.6 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game while shooting 45.3% from the field, 38.9% from beyond the arc and 81.4% from the free-throw line.
The 32-year-old Grant enters next season with career averages of 13.5 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. He's played for the Philadelphia 76ers, Oklahoma City Thunder, Denver Nuggets, Detroit Pistons and Trail Blazers.
Grant has made the playoffs five times. He holds career postseason averages of 10.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game in 40 playoff games with the Thunder, Nuggets and Trail Blazers.
It will be fascinating to see if Grant spends all of next season with the Grizzlies, who are in rebuild mode. Grant is better suited to play for a playoff team at this stage of his career.
The Grizzlies went 25-57 last season. They traded Morant to the Trail Blazers this offseason and drafted their new franchise player, Cam Boozer.
In Summer League, Boozer played well, averaging 18.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.8 steals per game while shooting 45.2% from the field, 33.3% from beyond the arc and 77.3% from the free-throw line.
The youngster made the Summer League First Team and led Memphis to the championship game, a contest the Golden State Warriors won.
Selected third overall in the 2026 draft behind AJ Dybantsa and Darryn Peterson, Boozer is expected to be a day-one starter for the Grizzlies next season alongside Cedric Coward, last season's All-Rookie First Team selection.
