Winter weather forces NBA calendar shake-up. Grizzlies face a compressed March schedule with three rescheduled home games.
The ripple effects of January’s winter storm in Memphis are still being felt across the NBA calendar, with the league reshuffling key dates for the Memphis Grizzlies as the regular season heads toward its stretch run.
The NBA announced that three Grizzlies home games have been rescheduled after Memphis’ Jan. 25 matchup against the Denver Nuggets was postponed due to unsafe travel conditions caused by severe winter weather. The storm disrupted not only local roads but also team and league operations, forcing a broader scheduling adjustment that extended beyond Memphis.
The postponed Nuggets game has been moved to March 18 at FedExForum, with a 7 p.m. local tip. To accommodate that makeup date, the league shifted two other Grizzlies home games. Memphis’ previously scheduled March 18 contest against the New York Knicks has been moved to April 1, while the home game against the Dallas Mavericks has been moved up from April 1 to March 12. All three games will tip at 7 p.m. local time.
The NBA’s reshuffling followed a complicated stretch for Memphis late last month. After the Jan. 25 postponement, the Grizzlies returned to action the next night on the road against the Houston Rockets before coming home to host the Charlotte Hornets on Jan. 28. Memphis lost that game to Charlotte and has since slid into a four-game losing streak.
Beyond simply finding an open date for the Nuggets makeup, the league’s adjustments created a denser March for Memphis, one that could have implications in the Western Conference play-in race. The Grizzlies are now set for a demanding sequence that includes road games at the Brooklyn Nets on March 9 and the Philadelphia 76ers on March 10, followed by the newly scheduled home game against Dallas on March 12 and a road matchup with the Detroit Pistons on March 13. That stretch amounts to four games in five nights, compressing travel and recovery time during a pivotal part of the season.
The winter storm that initially forced the Nuggets postponement also triggered additional league-wide adjustments, including other postponed games around the NBA, which limited flexibility when it came time to rework the Grizzlies’ schedule. As a result, the Knicks and Mavericks games in Memphis were moved to preserve rest balance as much as possible while opening March 18 for the Denver matchup.
The Grizzlies also announced a ticketing accommodation related to the weather disruptions. Fans who held tickets for the Jan. 28 home game against Charlotte but were unable to attend due to storm-related conditions will be allowed to exchange those tickets for seats at one of the next three home games. Tickets for the postponed Nuggets game will be honored on the new March 18 date.
Memphis enters the reshaped portion of its schedule at 18–27, sitting 12th in the Western Conference. The Grizzlies return to action Thursday night on the road against the New Orleans Pelicans, with a 6:30 p.m. local tip on FanDuel Sports Network, looking to halt their slide before the calendar — and the competition — tightens even further.
