This NBA trade idea has the Memphis Grizzlies trading Ja Morant and Jaylen Wells to the Phoenix Suns for Jalen Green.
In a story called "Bold NBA Trades That Should Happen This Offseason," Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report proposed a trade idea between the Memphis Grizzlies and Phoenix Suns.
Phoenix Suns Receive: PG Ja Morant, SF Jaylen Wells
Memphis Grizzlies Receive: SG Jalen Green
The Grizzlies are expected to trade Morant this offseason. This trade idea gets them Green, one of the top young scorers in the NBA.
"Green, 24, fits the timeline for a rebuilding Grizzlies team," Swartz wrote. "Injuries disrupted the beginning of his season, although the athletic shooting guard did average 21.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.1 steals during the month of March."
Green was the second overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. He holds career averages of 19.9 points per game with the Houston Rockets and Suns.
For Phoenix this season, Green averaged 17.8 points per game while shooting 42.2% overall, 31.3% from 3 and 74.7% from the foul line. He played in 32 games.
Morant appeared in only 20 games this season for the Grizzlies because of injuries. He averaged 19.5 points, 3.3 rebounds and 8.1 assists per contest while shooting 41.0% from the field, 23.5% from beyond the arc and 89.7% from the free-throw line.
The 2019-20 Rookie of the Year, Morant has led the Grizzlies to the second round of the playoffs just once. That was back in 2022.
Morant, 26, has career averages of 22.4 points, 4.6 rebounds and 7.4 assists per game. He was the second overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft out of Murray State. The point guard has been suspended by the league twice for showing a gun on IG Live.
Morant will make $42.1 million next season and $44 million in the 2027-28 season, the final year of his contract. Meanwhile, Green will make $36.3 million next season. He holds a player option worth $36 million for the 2027-28 season.
