Quinten Post reflected on his Warriors tenure before returning to Chase Center with Memphis and said, “tonight I just want to kill them.”
Quinten Post was back at Chase Center on Friday morning, this time for a Memphis Grizzlies shootaround before the Golden State Warriors' home opener.
Post played his first two NBA seasons in Golden State. At shootaround, he sat down with Michael Wallace of Grind City Media, the Grizzlies' in-house outlet, for an interview the team posted Friday afternoon.
Memphis signed Post to a three-year, $30 million offer sheet on July 6. Golden State declined to match it a day later, and Post officially signed with the Grizzlies on July 8.
Post still calls the organization and the city special, even after the Warriors let him go in restricted free agency.
"I'm always very grateful to the Warriors organization," Post said. "They drafted me, they gave me a chance out of the G League. I didn't start up top. I started in their G League system. And so it'll always be a place that's special to me. The city of San Francisco is great."
"Great organization, but now we're here, I'm really happy to be here, and tonight I just want to kill them, to be honest," Post added.
Post Built His NBA Career With Golden State
Golden State made Post the 52nd pick in the 2024 NBA Draft out of Boston College. He signed a two-way contract on Sept. 26, 2024.
With the Santa Cruz Warriors, Golden State's G League affiliate, he started all 17 of his games and averaged 18.8 points and 9.6 rebounds before the Warriors converted him to a standard two-year contract on Feb. 7, 2025.
As a rookie, Post appeared in 42 games, 14 of them starts, and made 40.8% of his 3-point attempts.
He played 67 games last season and started 35. His averages were 7.7 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.4 assists in 17.3 minutes, and his 3-point percentage fell to 33.6% on 93-of-277 shooting.
A right foot injury kept him out of Golden State's final seven regular-season games and both of its play-in games.
Post Wants Memphis to Carry Its Identity on the Road
On Wednesday, the Grizzlies beat Utah 123-103 at FedExForum as Ty Jerome scored a career-high 45 points.
An 18-4 run to open the third quarter put Memphis ahead 82-55. Memphis finished with 23 fast-break points to Utah's 9 and outrebounded the Jazz 55-38.
Post scored 7 points on 3-of-4 shooting, went 1-of-2 from 3-point range, and picked up 4 fouls. Zach Edey had 6 points and 9 rebounds.
At Chase Center, Post wants the same game Memphis played at home.
"I think the first game at home, I think we really showed our identity and the stuff that we've been working on all summer," Post explained, "playing with speed, being really aggressive on defense, get out in transition, and then I thought what coach preaches on, like these high-level interactions between groups of three guys or two guys in the pick and roll, and I thought we executed at a high level."
"There were a few points where we could have for sure improved," Post continued. "Our transition defense was at some point of the night not perfect. So we try to learn from that, and then tonight we're here in Chase Center and try to do the same thing."
Golden State opened its season Wednesday in Los Angeles. For Friday, the Warriors ruled out Jimmy Butler III, Moses Moody, and Kristaps Porziņģis and listed Brandin Podziemski as questionable.
For the next four games, Memphis has to bring its own energy without the FedExForum crowd from the opener.
"It's always different playing at home versus away," Post said. "I thought our fans were absolutely great in our home opener and now we just got to bring that same intensity on the road. It's always a little different but we got a young squad full of energy and I think we'll be fine."
Post Sees Different Looks in Grizzlies' Center Rotation
Memphis went 25-57 last season. Post said Edey's size and his own spacing give the Grizzlies two different looks at center.
"When I played the Grizzlies last year, I think they had half a big on the roster," Post said. "So just to have bodies to throw out there, obviously Zach brings a very unique skill set, just size to the game, to the team, and then I bring a different element with my spacing ability, obviously, and then hopefully we'll get Stew back soon and we'll have a great rotation."
Memphis acquired Isaiah Stewart from the Detroit Pistons on June 24 for three future second-round picks. He averaged 10.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks in 58 games for Detroit last season.
Two minutes into his Grizzlies debut, Stewart sprained his left ankle in the first quarter of the Oct. 5 preseason opener in Atlanta.
The team called the sprain moderate on Oct. 9 and set a re-evaluation for two weeks later. He was doubtful for the opener and did not play.
Stewart is listed as questionable for Friday. Cedric Coward is doubtful with a left wrist sprain.
Tip-off is set for 9 p.m. CT.
The Grizzlies visit Sacramento on Sunday at 8 p.m. CT and Utah on Monday at 8 p.m. CT, then close the four-game trip in Portland on Oct. 29 before returning home to face Sacramento again on Oct. 31.
Golden State comes to FedExForum on Nov. 19.
