The Memphis Grizzlies are reportedly looking into the idea of acquiring an extra lottery pick in the 2026 NBA Draft.
The Memphis Grizzlies are already in good shape to have a strong showing at the 2026 NBA Draft, as they are equipped with the No. 3, 16 and 32 overall selections.
But one lottery pick may not be enough to satisfy what the organization is looking to do at this year's draft. According to a report from NBA insider Jake Fischer, the Grizzlies are "exploring avenues to move up and generate a second crack at lottery talent."
No matter what happens, Memphis should leave the draft with a potentially team-altering talent at No. 3 overall, whether it ends up being Duke University's Cameron Boozer or someone else.
However, a chance to add two lottery picks in one draft is certainly an exciting thought, especially for a franchise that could use a shot in the arm after a 25-57 season.
Doing so could mean giving up the No. 16 overall pick plus at least one other asset in order to move up. It's unclear if the No. 16 and 32 overall picks combined would be enough of a package for the Grizzlies to entice a team in the late lottery to swap -- if a late lottery pick is what the team even has in mind. Perhaps Memphis has even bigger aspirations than acquiring a lottery pick in the No. 13 or 14 range.
Of course, the organization could also put together a deal to move up that doesn't involve any of its 2026 picks.
If the pick at No. 3 is Boozer, the Grizzlies can feel good about the fact that they'll be bringing a special talent into the fold. The forward averaged 22.5 points, 10.2 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game in his lone season at Duke while shooting 55.6 percent from the field and 39.1 percent from beyond the arc.
He took home AP Player of the Year honors nationally and is one of the elite talents in this year's draft.
But the lottery is filled with other talent as well, and the Grizzlies may be looking to take advantage. Whatever their vision is, they don't have too much time left to make it happen, as the first round of the draft is this coming Tuesday.
A plethora of draft prospects have worked out with Memphis, according to Rookie Wire's tracker, so fans can be confident that the team has done a lot of homework leading up to the event.
