The Memphis Grizzlies reportedly remain active on the trade market as they navigate a roster crunch.
The Memphis Grizzlies have already had a busy offseason, but they aren't done yet.
According to a report from Sean Deveney of Heavy Sports, the Grizzlies remain "active" on the trade market, though they don't appear to be in any rush.
"The Grizzlies remain a team that is active on the trade market, though there is no hurry to get something done," he wrote.
Memphis is facing a roster crunch and will need to move on from several players sooner or later. The team currently has 19 players on standard contracts, a number that will need to be down to 15 by the start of the regular season. At least four players on standard deals will need to be traded, waived or moved in some other fashion.
Deveney noted that a buyout of veteran guard D’Angelo Russell is "all but assured." He added that the rest of the moves could be trades of "back-end players." One player that isn't expected to be traded this year is veteran forward Jerami Grant, per Deveney.
The Grizzlies ultimately may have to make some tough decisions in order to meet the roster requirements, but there's no harm in having a loaded roster at this stage of the offseason as they try to keep their options open. The team has been linked in some trade rumors as of late that may be worth keeping an eye on.
It has already been a trade-heavy offseason for Memphis, and another deal or two would continue that trend. The most notable trade of the Grizzlies' offseason came when they moved former franchise cornerstone Ja Morant to the Portland Trail Blazers, which marked the end of a memorable chapter in franchise history.
But Memphis is certainly hoping that down the road, the selection of incoming rookie Cameron Boozer will be remembered as the defining moment of its 2026 offseason. Boozer, selected at No. 3 overall, was impressive during Summer League action and is already getting Rookie of the Year chatter. If all goes to plan, he will cement himself as the long-term face of the franchise and eventually push the Grizzlies into true contention.
Boozer took home just about every award imaginable during his lone season at Duke and is seen by many as the most NBA-ready player in his draft class. Now, the question shifts to what type of core Memphis wants to build around him in the long run. The roster crunch this offseason won't necessarily force the Grizzlies to move on from any core pieces, but every choice matters.
