Cameron Boozer gives the Memphis Grizzlies a potential franchise cornerstone, and maybe the best player in the 2026 class, if Memphis builds the right roster around him.

It's finally official. Cameron Boozer is a member of the Memphis Grizzlies.

Most of us saw this coming. Boozer to Memphis was basically telegraphed. That said, there was some noise. Some rumors suggested that the Jazz could grab Boozer with the second pick. They didn't:

And the Grizzlies should be thankful.

Grizzlies Potentially Select the Best Player in Class

The draft is a gamble. Nobody knows exactly how these careers will take shape.

Still, if you're reading this and you think Boozer will be the best player in his class, you're not alone.

It depends on your preferred scouting philosophy. Boozer isn't the most impressive athlete - that's AJ Dybansta or Caleb Wilson. He doesn't have the most exciting game - that's probably Darryn Peterson.

But when it comes to fundamentals, you couldn't ask for better than Boozer.

What can't he do? Boozer is a good shooter. He's an excellent playmaker. He controls the glass. All of which led to an NCAA record 18.7 Box Plus/Minus (BPM) with Duke last year.

Now, he'll be putting up stats in a Grizzlies uniform.

College production doesn't always portend NBA success, but it's as strong of an indicator as we have. Boozer's critics worry that he played too much bully ball in the NCAA. He won't have the same strength in the NBA:

As a rookie, anyway.

Wasn't Boozer bullying his future NBA opponents at the collegiate level? Why wouldn't that translate? His body will develop. In time, Boozer should be one of the strongest fours in the NBA. Paired with his well-rounded skillset, that should make him a franchise-caliber player.

The Grizzlies will have an opportunity to find out.

Grizzlies Need to Build Around Boozer

That said, the Grizzlies' work isn't finished.

Ja Morant trade rumors continue to circulate. It seems the market for him is dry. It's a bit concerning. Bringing Boozer into an environment with that much uncertainty is not ideal.

Moreover, Memphis will likely struggle to win games next year. That won't be the primary goal of the season. Instead, Memphis will spend most of the year trying to figure out who complements Boozer, and who doesn't.

The road will be long. At times, it will be perilous. Still, the Grizzlies just took the most important first step. They have their north star in Boozer:

In a few years, don't be surprised if we all agree that Boozer was the best player in his class.
