Grizzlies Should Keep Close Eye on These 3 Point Guard Prospects

The Memphis Grizzlies have an extremely bright future, but they may not win a lot of games during the 2026-27 season. So, it's sensible for their fans to start looking at the 2027 NBA Draft.

Granted, with the flattened lottery odds, it's impossible to predict the Grizzlies' range. Luckily, they also own the Utah Jazz's upcoming pick — although if it lands in the top five, it'll automatically be bumped down to No. 6 under the new rules.

So, the Grizzlies should be looking at a range of prospects. Still, they'll surely have some best-case scenarios in mind. With Cameron Boozer and Cedric Coward looking like cornerstones, landing one of the class's best point guards would be ideal.

Here are three who could change the team's fortunes.

Joksimovic just led Slovenia to a gold medal in the EuroBasket U18 tournament, averaging 23.1 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game.

Don't let the stats fool you. That assist number might be low, but the 6-foot-7 playmaker knew he had to carry the team's scoring load. If you watch Joksimovic, you know he's a dynamic passer with outstanding floor vision.

There isn't much to dislike about Joksimovic. He's a three-level scorer with passing chops and a solid, versatile defender. If he lines up at the 1 at the NBA level, he'll have exceptional positional size. Don't be surprised if Joksimovic is making a case as the No. 1 pick in the 2027 NBA Draft by the time it rolls around.

The Grizzlies may have to get awfully lucky to land him.

Mingo is another big guard. At 6-foot-5 with a 6-foot-10 wingspan, he'd give the Grizzlies a huge advantage at the point guard position.

Although he comes with more question marks. Mingo's jump shot needs work. In Nike's EYBL circuit, he hit just 25.6% of his 3-pointers.

He's an excellent playmaker on both sides of the ball. Mingo is a terror in transition. That said, until he improves his 3-point shot, he projects as a ball-dominant player who may not complement Cameron Boozer.

Unlike the next prospect on the list.

At 6-foot-2, Smith does not have Joksimovic's size. That said, with a 6-foot-9 wingspan, he's an even better defender.

Just don't mistake him for a specialist. Smith just averaged 20.4 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game in Nike's EYBL tournament. He's a crafty scorer who can make plays for his teammates as well. Smith isn't an elite shooter, but at 36.5% from deep in high school, he's at least capable.

He may not project as a can't-miss superstar. Smith might be closer to a Jrue Holiday or Cason Wallace archetype. If Cameron Boozer is the type of playmaking hub he could be, that should suit the Grizzlies perfectly.

Smith would be the best fit for the Grizzlies.
