Quinten Post gives the Grizzlies a rare skill set at center: a floor-spacing big who shot 40.8% from three as a rookie and can hold his own defensively.
The Memphis Grizzlies have had a busy summer.
Two moves made the bulk of the headlines: drafting Cameron Boozer and trading Ja Morant. Those were two of the most consequential decisions this organization has made in a long time, but the Grizzlies didn't stop there.
Isaiah Stewart is in. Santi Aldama is out. Now, the Grizzlies have added another piece to the frontcourt. Memphis signed restricted free agent Quinten Post to a 3-year, $30 million offer sheet, and the Warriors chose not to match it, officially sending Post to Memphis. So what does he bring to the table?
Post Is an Intriguing Addition to the Grizzlies' Roster
In some respects, the decision to move on from Santi Aldama's contract makes a bit more sense now.
Post offers some of the same skill set at a fraction of the cost. Specifically, he stretches the floor from the 5 position. Across 2 NBA seasons, Post is shooting 36.4% from three-point range. His efficiency declined last year (33.6%) after a spectacular shooting season as a rookie (40.8%).
Post is also a solid defensive big who can guard the pick-and-roll fairly well. In other words, Memphis just added a floor-spacing big man who defends, and got him for a price tag the Warriors ultimately weren't willing to match.
Post Should Be a Valuable Rotation Piece
There's a reason why Post has averaged 16.9 minutes per game for his career. Warriors fans will attest to his stamina issues. Post is highly impactful when he gets on the floor, but like many big men, he struggles to play for long stretches.
He's also strictly a play finisher. Post doesn't have a means of generating his own offense, so this is a role player, and an extremely valuable one. The 2025-26 NBA Playoffs made the value of floor-spacing big men clear across the league. It's a rare skill set that pays dividends when the stakes are raised. Having a big man who can shoot the three-ball allows teams to run a wider range of lineups and play different styles of offense.
Perhaps the primary beneficiary will be Cameron Boozer. His own shooting ability makes him a good fit next to Zach Edey, but lining up next to a stretch five like Post should allow him to get to the rim more easily.
The signing makes a lot of sense for Memphis. It's also notable beyond the fit: Post became the first restricted free agent worth at least $5 million a year to change teams via an unmatched offer sheet since Bogdan Bogdanović left Sacramento for Atlanta in 2020. The Grizzlies weren't done being busy this summer, and this move might end up being one of their quieter, smarter ones.
