The Atlanta Hawks acquired defensive wing Lu Dort in a three-team trade with the Thunder and Mavericks on July 19, bolstering a young, athletic roster.
The Atlanta Hawks traded for Luguentz Dort on July 19, completing a multi-player deal that reshapes the roster ahead of the 2026-27 season.
Dort was a part of the Oklahoma City Thunder's 2025 NBA championship run. However, the team lost to the San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference Championship in 2026.
OKC general manager Sam Presti, who is familiar with having to make difficult financial roster decisions to build for the future while remaining competitive, decided to trade Dort to the Atlanta Hawks.
Locked on Hawks' Brad Rowland provided more detail regarding the Hawks' acquisition of Dort and the official trade details.

Atlanta Hawks Growth
Free agency began on June 30 at 6:00 p.m. ET, but Atlanta's front office has been adding pieces since the NBA Draft. The franchise drafted Kingston Flemings at No. 8 and Zuby Ejiofor at No.23.
Both players have been active in Summer league play. Flemings averaged seven points, 6.5 assists, four rebounds, and 1.5 steals in Las Vegas. He has struggled to find his shot at times.
Ejofor, on the other hand, turned some heads as he averaged 12.5 points, five rebounds, and 2.5 assists. He also finished one game with a double-double of 19 points and 15 rebounds against the Oklahoma City Thunder this summer.
In addition to drafting two young, explosive players, the organization extended CJ McCollum to a one-year, $21 million contract and signed Jock Landale to a one-year, $14 million contract. Coupled with the signings, Atlanta traded for Aaron Wiggins from the Oklahoma City Thunder for two second-round picks.
The franchise acquired Devin Carter from the Sacramento Kings. Both Wiggins and Carter are under 30 years old.
Right now, if the season started today, the starting lineup could consist of McCollum, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Dyson Daniels, Jalen Johnson, and Onyeka Okongwu.
The Hawks' summer league ended early, but the franchise was able to evaluate its young talent and take a step closer to the regular season.
Atlanta still has cap space available, and Jonathan Kuminga is most likely on his way out without a sign-and-trade, but the franchise added a lockdown defender in Dort.
