The Atlanta Hawks have selected guard prospect Kingston Flemings from the University of Houston.

The Atlanta Hawks have made their choice with the No. 8 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, opting to keep the pick and select guard prospect Kingston Flemings from the University of Houston.

There was a lot of chatter about what the Hawks would do with their selection at No. 8. A number of reports circulated about the potential of Atlanta trading the pick, and there was even some conflicting info making the rounds about whether trading up was a possibility, which added to the uncertainty.

But in the end, the Hawks opted to keep it and add a talented guard.

With the franchise entering a new era after trading away longtime cornerstone Trae Young this past season, an infusion of talent in the backcourt makes a lot of sense.

Flemings should bring a lot to the table for the Hawks. A one-and-done talent at the collegiate level, he averaged 16.1 points, 4.1 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game in his lone season at Houston. He also knocked down 47.6 percent of his shots from the field and 38.7 percent of his shots from beyond the arc. His play led to him earning All-American honors.

Even though the Hawks went through some major changes in the 2025-26 season, they were still able to earn a playoff bid. They were matched up against the New York Knicks in the first round, and while they were ultimately eliminated in six games, they were the only team in the postseason to win two games in a series against the eventual champion Knicks.

Atlanta is looking to build toward a brighter future, and Flemings could become a key piece of that vision.

The Hawks, however, aren't done yet in this draft. As of now, they have two other selections to make, one later in the first round (at No. 23 overall) and one in the second round (at No. 57 overall).

Since Atlanta was involved in some trade rumors surrounding the No. 8 pick, it wouldn't be a total surprise to see the team also explore some possibilities with its other selections. But if the Hawks end up keeping all their picks in this draft, they can feel good about bringing in a wide range of young talent as they look to become a long-term fixture in the Eastern Conference race.

Time will tell how the rest of the draft and offseason unfold from here for the franchise.
