The Atlanta Hawks should attempt to trade for Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo this offseason.
Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo has been named the Atlanta Hawks' ambitious offseason trade target by Grant Hughes of Bleacher Report.
The Bucks and Antetokounmpo are expected to part ways this summer and Hughes believes the Hawks should attempt to trade for the future Hall of Famer.
"Obviously, Atlanta would need to include real talent to get the Bucks' attention," Hughes wrote. "But this team is pretty well equipped with two first-rounders in the 2026 draft and no shortage of future incoming capital to build a pick-led trade package. Better still, the Hawks figure to have easy access to nearly $30 million in cap space, which means they can take Giannis on without needing to send out contracts that total his $58 million salary."
Antetokounmpo will make $58.5 million next season. He has a player option worth $62.8 million for the 2027-28 season.
Under CBA rules, the Hawks can trade Jonathan Kuminga, Zaccharie Risacher, Corey Kispert, Buddy Hield and draft picks to the Bucks for Giannis, who doesn't have a no-trade clause in his contract.
Antetokounmpo has spent his entire NBA career with the Bucks. He's a two-time MVP, one-time Finals MVP, one-time Defensive Player of the Year and 10-time All-Star. Giannis is one of three players in NBA history to win MVP and DPOY in the same season.
Antetokounmpo led Milwaukee to the 2021 championship in six games against the Phoenix Suns, but the Bucks have won only one playoff series since then and missed the playoffs this year for the first time since 2016. Giannis is ready to leave Milwaukee.
Antetokounmpo holds career averages of 24.1 points, 9.9 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.2 blocks per game. It would certainly be fun to see him play alongside Jalen Johnson, Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Dyson Daniels in Quin Snyder's system.
The Hawks are one piece away from becoming a title contender. Antetokounmpo is one of the top players in the NBA. He averaged 27.6 points, 9.8 rebounds, 5.4 assists, 0.9 steals and 0.7 blocks per game this season. That type of production doesn't become available on the trade market often.
Atlanta lost to the New York Knicks in the first round of the 2026 playoffs in six games. Antetokounmpo, a top-75 player of all time, could be the missing piece the Hawks need to win their first NBA title since 1958.
Let's see if Atlanta's front office listens to Hughes and makes a massive push to acquire Antetokounmpo this summer.
