The Hawks became the first NBA team with an exclusive local streaming deal on Prime Video while keeping free over-the-air broadcasts.
The Atlanta Hawks made Prime Video their exclusive local streaming partner for the 2026-27 season, the team announced Tuesday.
Prime members inside the Hawks' television territory, which stretches across Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, and Mississippi, can watch every game that isn't an exclusive national broadcast without paying for a separate subscription.
Atlanta is the first NBA club with an exclusive local streaming deal on Prime Video, according to the team.
Andrew Saltzman, the Hawks' president of business enterprise and chief commercial officer, told Variety the streams will reach Hawks fans in cities such as Nashville and Charleston.
"We are committed to putting our fans first and maximizing accessibility throughout the state of Georgia and the Southeast," Saltzman said in the team's announcement.
Games stream on the web and in the Prime Video app, which runs on smart TVs, phones, tablets, and game consoles.
Hawks Expand Local Access Beyond Traditional TV
On July 16, the Hawks and Gray Media announced that every Atlanta regular-season game outside the national windows would air on WANF, Atlanta News First, and on Peachtree Sports Network, free over the air.
Gray stations in Albany, Augusta, Columbus, Macon, and Savannah carry the games as well. Beyond its antenna signal, WANF is available on Xfinity, Spectrum, DirecTV, DISH Network, YouTube TV, DirecTV Stream, and Fubo.
Atlanta has 74 regular-season games set for the Gray broadcasts and Prime Video, according to the team. Raycom Sports, a Gray Media company, produces them.
Gray's July agreement also included three preseason games and select national games.
In 2023-24, WANF and Peachtree TV began simulcasting 10- and 11-game Hawks packages each season. Last season's 13-game package averaged more than 1.5 times the ratings of the team's other local telecasts, according to Gray, which cited Nielsen data.
According to Gray, the Hawks aired on WPCH, then known as WTCG and later WTBS, from 1972 to 1994. They were also on WANF, then WGNX and later WGCL, from 1986 to 1993.
Hawks Move on From FanDuel Sports Network
Atlanta's local games aired on FanDuel Sports Network last season. In April, Main Street Sports Group, which operated the network, told its NBA and NHL partners it would wind down after the 2026 NBA regular season. The Hawks were one of 13 NBA teams on the network.
Saltzman told Variety each NBA team that had relied on Main Street faced its own set of decisions, and that "getting maximum reach was paramount" in the Hawks' choice.
Prime Video is in its second season as a national NBA media partner under an 11-year agreement with the league that began in 2025-26. The Hawks' local deal is separate from those national rights.
Charlie Neiman, who heads sports partnerships for Prime Video, said the Hawks join a local sports lineup the service pitches as a "one-stop destination" for fans.
Six NHL teams, among them the Carolina Hurricanes and Minnesota Wild, landed on Prime Video through exclusive local streaming deals announced Sept. 2.
New Broadcast Setup Begins With Opening Week
Wednesday's opener against the Orlando Magic at the Kia Center tips off at 7 p.m. ET, and Atlanta plays at the Charlotte Hornets two nights later.
Atlanta went 4-1 in the preseason, finishing with a 135-111 win over the Dallas Mavericks, and has ruled out two players for the opener with three more listed as questionable.
The Hawks host the Houston Rockets in Saturday's home opener at State Farm Arena. Most of their home games this season are scheduled for 7 p.m. ET, a half-hour earlier than the usual start in past seasons, though the opener is set for later in the evening.
