The Atlanta Hawks might be looking to reshape their roster as the NBA trade deadline looms. They have already begun this by trading away franchise icon Trae Young to the Washington Wizards.
What else might the Hawks have in store? How about a blockbuster deal for Mavericks' forward Anthony Davis, who is starting to get buzz as a name that could be traded ahead of the February deadline.
ESPN's Tim MacMahon reports that, considering the Hawks traded for CJ McCollum's expiring contract, it gives Atlanta financial freedom to take on large contracts for future purposes.
MacMahon also includes in his piece the likelihood of Anthony Davis getting moved, and notes that the Hawks join the Toronto Raptors as "primary potential destinations.'
Atlanta would have to be comfortable with extending Davis in August, if they do choose to make a deal for him, and also be aware that it would likely cost several future draft picks to land Anthony Davis.
Other reports have noted that the Dallas Mavericks are listening to offers on Davis, but nothing is imminent, as Dallas weighs whether they want to offload him now or be prepared to extend him to a max contract this summer.
Anthony Davis is a 10-time All-Star, 5X All-NBA, and has averaged 24 points and 10.7 total rebounds over his 14-year NBA career. In 2025, Davis has played in 19 games, averaging 20.3 points per game and 11 rebounds.
Dallas certainly wants to build around rookie Cooper Flagg, Kyrie Irving, and Anthony Davis, but the experiment hasn't worked out thus far, as the Mavs continue to sink in the Western Conference.
This might be a great opportunity to offload Davis and build around Flagg with several top draft picks, and maybe a role player that the Hawks could offer. Kyrie Irving has been injured for the majority of the 2025-2026 season and isn't expected back until March.
As for the Hawks, they are expected to be active towards the NBA trade deadline as they prepare for life without Trae Young, but the Hawks now have another couple of pieces in CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert (traded from the Wizards in Young deal) that they could also use as trade bait for the future.
Atlanta seems to really like its young core in Jalen Johnson, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, and Zaccharie Risacher; however, the Hawks seem to be missing one piece to make everything click.
