The Atlanta Hawks can not be stopped!! After their 135-120 victory over the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday night, Atlanta has now won its 11th straight NBA game, and is now seven games above .500 (38-31).
For most of this season, the Hawks had struggled to get back to the .500 plateau, but this eleven-game winning streak leaves Hawks' fans with a new outlook on this season. A potential play-off series, and maybe even home-court advantage in a series. The longest winning streak in the Hawks franchise history? 19 straight in the 2014-15 season. Doesn't seem too out of reach at this point.
It seems like every game during this torrid stretch for the Hawks has featured a different playmaker who has lifted the team to victory. This time, it was CJ McCollum, who led the Hawks with 24 points. Jalen Johnson had a somewhat down-scoring night, but Jonathan Kuminga, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Onyeka Okongwu, and Dyson Daniels picked up the slack. Alexander-Walker added 22 points on four 3-pointers.
Jalen Johnson came just one assist shy of a third straight triple-double, but still added 17 points, 11 rebounds, and nine assists.
The Hawks' starters collectively had another great night, and the winning streak continues to be propelled by exceptional team basketball.
As a surging team in the NBA, Atlanta has its eyes on escaping the play-in, and at this rate, it's not unfathomable to think the Hawks could reach the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference, especially on the trajectory they are on.
Wednesday night featured another impressive Hawks scoring effort. They got up by as many as 19 in the third quarter, and by the time the fourth quarter rolled around, Atlanta led 101-82. Atlanta has scored 120+ points in eight of their last 11 games.
Another complete game for the Atlanta Hawks, who have just shown a refusal to lose over the last month, and continue to play exceptional team basketball.
Jonathan Kuminga had a solid night off the bench with 16 points in 18 minutes and seems to be fully recovered from that left knee issue. Kuminga also made a 71-foot hail mary 3-pointer in the game, which was possibly the highlight of the night.
Once the Hawks take the court on Friday night against the Houston Rockets, it will officially have been one calendar month since Atlanta has lost a basketball game. The winning streak started on February 22 and has featured wins over the Brooklyn Nets (x2), Milwaukee Bucks (x2), Dallas Mavericks (x2), Washington Wizards (x2), Portland Trail Blazers, Orlando Magic, and Philadelphia 76ers.
