A blockbuster NBA trade idea sending Jaylen Brown from the Boston Celtics to the Atlanta Hawks has been created.
Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report proposed the following trade idea between the Celtics, Hawks and New Orleans Pelicans:
New Orleans Pelicans receive: No. 8 pick, Jonathan Kuminga (sign-and-trade), Zaccharie Risacher, 2028 first-round pick (via ATL, CLE or UTA)
Atlanta Hawks receive: Jaylen Brown, Yves Missi
Boston Celtics receive: Trey Murphy III, Onyeka Okongwu, Kevon Looney, 2030 first-round pick swap (via ATL)
"The Hawks might be willing to pay a premium for Brown, a Georgia native, since their young core looks ready to fly but probably needs a top-shelf talent to really take off. He could be the go-to option they lack in the half-court while adding even more length, physicality and disruption to their perimeter group," Buckley wrote.
The Hawks and Celtics spoke about a Brown trade last offseason. Brown was born and raised in Marietta, Georgia.
Brown is eligible for a two-year, $142 million extension in July. The one-time NBA champion has three seasons left on his current deal and a combined $183 million.
For the Celtics this regular season, Brown averaged 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game. The five-time All-Star put up 25.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game against the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round of the playoffs, a series the Celtics lost in seven games after taking a 3-1 lead.
The Hawks lost to the New York Knicks in the first round in six games. They need another star next to Jalen Johnson, Dyson Daniels and Nickeil Alexander-Walker to be a legit contender next season.
Brown is one of the top two-way players in the NBA. The swingman has career averages of 20.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game and one can surmise that he would enjoy playing in Georgia since he's from there.
It will be fascinating to see if the Celtics look to trade Brown this offseason. If Brown gets put on the trade market, the Hawks should look to acquire him.
Brown raised eyebrows when he said this season was his favorite season of his career. The Celtics went 56-26 and were the No. 2 seed in the East despite playing much of the season without Jayson Tatum.
Some people in the NBA believe Brown wants to be the No. 1 option on a team. He would get that title in Atlanta.
The Hawks haven't won a playoff series since 2021. That's the year Trae Young led the franchise to the Eastern Conference Finals. If Atlanta wants to win big in the Johnson era, the front office has to acquire Brown. Let's see if it gets done.
