Report: Atlanta Hawks Could Sign Quin Snyder to Extension

The Atlanta Hawks could sign head coach Quin Snyder to an extension this offseason, according to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line.

Snyder has been with the Hawks since February 2023. He's 132-135 in the regular season and 4-8 in the playoffs.

Atlanta went 46-36 this season. Snyder and Co. lost to the New York Knicks in the first round of the playoffs in six games despite taking a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven series.

Snyder is 504-399 in the regular season and 25-38 in the playoffs with the Utah Jazz and Hawks. He's never led his team past the second round of the playoffs.

The Hawks made two blockbuster trades this season. They traded Trae Young to the Washington Wizards and sent Kristaps Porziņģis to the Golden State Warriors.

Atlanta acquired Corey Kispert and CJ McCollum from Washington and Jonathan Kuminga and Buddy Hield from Golden State.

After the Knicks eliminated the Hawks from the 2026 playoffs, Atlanta CEO Steve Koonin said he expects Snyder to be his head coach "for a very, very long time." All signs point toward the Hawks signing Snyder to an extension this summer.

In the post-Young era, Atlanta is building around Jalen Johnson, Dyson Daniels and Nickeil Alexander-Walker. Johnson made his first All-Star team this year, Daniels won the Most Improved Player of the Year Award last season and Alexander-Walker won it this season.

It will be fascinating to see if the Hawks make another big trade this summer to become a legitimate championship contender. They have been linked to Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown and Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo.

However, we could see Atlanta stand pat as well.

"We are not one player away," Hawks exec Onsi Saleh said. "The best iteration of this team is going to be through development and our players currently getting better. We're really excited about the future and what holds there, from the draft to the flexibility moving forward, all that stuff. We're in a good place, position set up moving forward, and our coaching staff has just been remarkable this year."
