The Atlanta Hawks have reportedly explored Jonathan Kuminga's trade value ahead of the 2026 NBA Draft.
The Atlanta Hawks have some key decisions to make this offseason, and what to do with former NBA lottery pick Jonathan Kuminga is one of them.
Kuminga has a team option for the 2026-27 season valued at $24.3 million. According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, while it is a "real possibility" that Kuminga stays with the Hawks, the team has also done its "due diligence" and gauged the forward's value on the trade market ahead of the draft.
Kuminga came over to the Hawks during the 2025-26 season in a trade with the Golden State Warriors. The deal marked the end of his tenure with the Warriors, who he had spent his entire NBA career with after being drafted by them in 2021.
In 16 appearances with the Hawks in the regular season, he averaged 12.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. He also appeared in six playoff games for the squad and averaged 13.7 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.0 assist per game.
The question now becomes whether he showed the Hawks enough for them to see him as a part of their future. Although he has already played five seasons in the NBA, he is still just 23 years old, so he has lots of basketball ahead of him and may still have some untapped potential.
Kuminga was a lottery pick for a reason, but his tenure with the Warriors was bumpy. He had an inconsistent role and never truly reached the heights that some fans expected of him.
Still, his numbers were respectable, as he finished his Golden State stint with averages of 12.5 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists per contest.
The Warriors also won a championship during his tenure, as they captured the 2022 NBA title.
Some fans felt like a change of scenery away from Golden State was going to be necessary for him to take the next step as a player. He got that change of scenery with the trade to Atlanta, but the sample size has been too small since the deal to make any firm judgments about his trajectory.
Wherever he ends up, he'll look to reach his ceiling in the NBA and show that he was worthy of being selected at No. 7 overall a few years back. If his Hawks tenure continues, he could become a key piece for a team that has undergone some significant changes in recent months.
