Maccabi Tel Aviv has emerged as a serious suitor for Keaton Wallace, who became a free agent after Atlanta declined to issue a qualifying offer.
Former Atlanta Hawks guard Keaton Wallace could be headed overseas for the next chapter of his professional career.
BasketNews' Donatas Urbonas reported that Wallace is expected to continue his career in Europe. Maccabi Tel Aviv, a EuroLeague club based in Tel Aviv, Israel, has emerged as a serious suitor, according to Urbonas' sources. Urbonas reported that it is unclear whether any other EuroLeague team is pursuing him.
Wallace was eligible for restricted free agency this summer. Atlanta declined to issue a qualifying offer worth roughly $3.1 million, and he became an unrestricted free agent. It was one of several roster decisions that shaped Atlanta's offseason.
Maccabi has already added one player with NBA experience this offseason. The club announced this week that it signed Daniel Theis to a two-year contract. Theis, 34, appeared in 411 regular-season NBA games for Boston and five other franchises from 2017 through 2025, and he spent last season with AS Monaco, averaging 9.9 points and 5.2 rebounds in 34 EuroLeague games.
Wallace entered the 2021 draft after four years at the University of Texas at San Antonio and went undrafted. Later that year he was taken with the ninth pick of the second round of the NBA G League draft by the Wisconsin Herd and traded to the Agua Caliente Clippers. He signed a two-way contract with the Los Angeles Clippers on Feb. 21, 2023, and was waived nine days later without appearing in a game. His G League rights were traded to the College Park Skyhawks that August, and Atlanta signed him to a two-way contract on July 15, 2024.
During the 2024-25 season, his first with the Hawks, Wallace played 31 games and started five. He averaged 5.4 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 2.6 assists in 16.2 minutes per game while shooting 40.1% from the field and 32.9% from three-point range. He went 11-of-11 from the free-throw line.
On Jan. 15, 2025, Wallace scored a career-high 27 points in a 110-94 win over the Chicago Bulls. He shot 10-of-17 from the field, made four 3-pointers, and finished with 6 rebounds, 6 assists, and 4 steals. His previous career high was 14 points.
Three months later, in the regular-season finale, Wallace recorded the first triple-double of his career. He finished with 15 points, 11 rebounds, 15 assists, and 5 steals in 37 minutes of a 117-105 win over the Orlando Magic on April 13, 2025, becoming the first two-way player in franchise history to record one. Most of Atlanta's starters sat out ahead of the play-in tournament.
Atlanta converted Wallace to a standard contract in October of 2025, a one-year deal worth $2.3 million.
During his second season with the Hawks, in 2025-26, Wallace played 53 games and started three. He averaged 3.5 points, 1.1 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 0.5 steals in 10.1 minutes per game. He appeared in three games in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs, closing Game 6 against New York with 4 points on 2-of-5 shooting, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal in 10 minutes.
In two seasons with Atlanta, Wallace played 84 games and started eight, averaging 4.2 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 12.3 minutes per game.
The 27-year-old is the older brother of Oklahoma City Thunder guard Cason Wallace. Aaron Wiggins, who was traded from the Thunder to the Hawks earlier this offseason, was in line to be his teammate in Atlanta.
No signing has been announced. Maccabi Tel Aviv won its 58th Israeli league championship on June 23, closing out the finals against Hapoel Tel Aviv 3-1 with an 83-79 win in Game 4.
