In case you missed it, the Atlanta Hawks are doing a special promotional night on Monday, March 16, against the Orlando Magic, where they will honor the legacy of the "Magic City" adult entertainment venue by showcasing apparel and Magic City's world-famous lemon pepper wings.
The word has started to get out around the NBA, and one player in particular, Luke Cornet, has taken strong exception to the Hawks running this promotion, and in a recent post, Kornet calls for the Hawks to cancel the event.
Here was some of Luke Kornet's message regarding the Hawks' "Magic City Monday" event, which already seems to be a hit, as ticket prices have soared in the past few days for that game against the Magic:
"The NBA should desire to protect and esteem women, many of whom work diligently every day to make this the best basketball league in the world. We should promote an atmosphere that is protective and respectful of daughters, wives, sisters, mothers, and partners that we know and love."
Before that long statement, Kornet says "Given this fact, I would like to respectfully ask that the Atlanta Hawks cancel this promotional night with Magic City.
While Kornet may have some valid points about women being strong contributors to the inner workings of the NBA, he might be slightly out of line for publicly stating that he personally wants the promotional night canceled.
It's a good try by Kornet, but he has no ties to the Hawks or the city of Atlanta, which makes his stance non-credible.
Kornet later says in the message that allowing this night to go forward without protest reflects poorly on the NBA.
Unfortunately for Kornet, and I guess any of those who agree with him, this event was likely passed through the NBA governing body, which likely already approved the promotion as being worthy.
It will be interesting if any other wholesome and pure NBA athletes (like Kornet, clearly) come out publicly to express their opinion on the Hawks' upcoming Magic City promotion.
