The Miami Heat are one team expected to be big players when it comes to the offseason. They have a multitude of tradable picks, plenty of young stars with potential and hefty contracts to match as salary filler. Miami has one player on the roster who many have expected the team to part with for the past couple of seasons but this offseason may be the right time to move on.
Bleacher Report released an article, highlighting the 10 most likely trade candidates this offseason. The Heat's 2025 All-Star, Tyler Herro, cracked the list and is listed at No. 6.
"As the Heat embark on their annual whale hunt this offseason, expect to hear plenty of chatter around Herro," the article wrote. "With Miami logging an exhausting amount of miles on the treadmill of mediocrity, it must be enamored with the idea of a direction change—and terrified of the status quo that could come from extending Herro's stay in South Beach. Herro seems almost certain to figure prominently in any star pursuits. He was already dangled in front of the Milwaukee Bucks in hopes of prying Giannis Antetokounmpo away. The Heat had been "willing to hear offers for Herro dating back to before the trade deadline," per ClutchPoints' Brett Siegel. Herro isn't a great first option—or an average defender—but he is a great shot-maker who can create looks for himself and his teammates. Those offensive skills will always be coveted, although his contract uncertainty won't help with the offers the Heat will receive."
Herro has been one of the team's best scorers over the past couple of seasons and especially had a breakout campaign during the 2024-25 season, earning his first All-Star nod. However, he missed a lot of time this season and Pat Riley has been reluctant to hand him a contract extension. He is only under contract for one more season and Miami may want to deal him while he still has a solid amount of trade value. Norman Powell, last offseason's big acquisition, took the reigns of the backcourt for most of the season and will presumably not cost as much as Herro in terms of salary due to his age. If the Heat have to make a choice whether to re-sign Powell or extend Herro, there's a decent possibility the choice is the former.
