Giannis Antetokounmpo and Klay Thompson headline a massive veteran influx, pairing elite championship experience with Bam Adebayo to transform South Beach into a legitimate title powerhouse once again.
MIAMI, Fla. – The Miami Heat added four NBA Champions this offseason, which should be enough to chase the Larry O’Brien trophy ahead of the 2026-27 season.
Giannis Antetokounmpo
Two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo led the Milwaukee Bucks to end their 50-year championship drought in 2021. In Game 6 of the NBA Finals against the Phoenix Suns, he scored a historic 50 points, plus 14 rebounds, five blocks, and two assists, to secure the Larry O’Brien trophy.
Antetokounmpo was named Finals MVP.
Despite coming off an underwhelming season, playing just 33 games, the 31-year-old is ready to chase another championship, but in South Florida. Antetokounmpo is pairing with five-time All-Defense center Bam Adebayo.
Bobby Portis Jr.
Alongside the former Bucks star came Bobby Portis Jr. He played a critical role off the bench. In the Finals, Portis Jr. averaged 7.7 points on 42.5 percent shooting and four rebounds. The 31-year-old can guard all five positions and provides floor-spacing.
Portis Jr. will bring a spark and intensity to the Heat’s bench unit.
Andrew Wiggins
The Heat retained Andrew Wiggins in free agency this offseason. He opted into his $30.17 million player option, plus signed a two-year, $33.83 million extension. Wiggins averaged 15.4 points on 47.5 percent shooting, 4.8 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.1 steals in 68 games (all starts).
In the 2021-22 season with the Golden State Warriors, the one-time All-Star delivered a two-way impact.
Game 4 of the NBA Finals, against the Boston Celtics and facing a 2-1 deficit, Wiggins scored 17 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to help secure a 107-97 win. He averaged 18.3 points on 44.6 percent shooting, 8.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.5 steals, and 1.5 blocks throughout the six-game series.
Klay Thompson
Klay Thompson played a significant role in the Warriors’ dynasty of winning four championships in eight years. In the 2021-22 season, he recovered from left ACL and right Achilles tendon tears and returned to the court ahead of the Finals run. Thompson is in the process of a buyout with the Dallas Mavericks, expected to sign with the Heat in the upcoming days.
It’s been 13 years since the organization last won a title and a championship parade came through Biscayne Blvd. President Pat Riley and the rest of the Heat franchise are determined to deliver another one this upcoming season. The pieces are in place, with a couple pending, but putting it together is the next step.
