Erik Spoelstra provided some insight after being asked about Kel’el Ware and the challenge he had set.

The Miami Heat went winless throughout the preseason, but the final results do not matter. The main focus was for this relatively new group to build chemistry on the court and find a rhythm together.

Heat sophomore center Kel'el Ware had an impressive performance in the team's first home preseason game against the Milwaukee Bucks. He recorded 18 points and 13 rebounds, but was a -21 during his time on the court. The numbers speak greatly, but the impact was missing.

Afterwards, Erik Spoelstra challenged Ware to leave an impact on the game.

"I'm not looking at the stat line," he said in his postgame presser after the Bucks game. "I think everybody is looking at the wrong thing. It's got to impact the game."

Throughout the rest of the preseason, Ware recorded three more double-doubles, which showed tremendous effort and hustle. It wasn't enough to carry the team to victory, but he was a massive bright spot.

Ware came off the bench in the first three preseason games, then was inserted into the starting lineup, and two were alongside All-Star Bam Adebayo.

When asking Spoelstra about Ware facing the challenge, he had positive remarks about the 21-year-old.

"I like the progress he's making," he said. "We're going to continue to coach and push him. We see the talent there. He really can add a lot to our team. He wants us to coach him and that's what we owe him."

Ware has a chance to remain as the Heat's starting center, the same as last season. He provides size, which the organization has lacked in recent years, and can space the floor with his range from behind the arc, shooting 31.5 percent from three-point range last year.

The projected top teams in the Eastern Conference have size and length. The New York Knicks and Cleveland Cavaliers have tremendous size with their frontcourt pieces, and the Orlando Magic have it from top to bottom of their roster.

Ware has an opportunity to be utilized more this season and leave a strong impact each game day. He will play a big role in the team's defense, especially as a shot blocker and rim protector.

The former first-round pick has the potential of being regarded as one of the best bigs in the league. However, the case can only be made on the basketball court.

There are high expectations for Ware to take another leap this season, and the same goes for Nikola Jovic, Jaime Jaquez Jr., and Pelle Larsson.

The Heat will heavily rely on their younger players to help carry them into contention. It will be an interesting situation for Erik Spoelstra, but Ware will play a crucial role in their success.
