The Miami Heat started the season off strong but have tailed off recently. The team was originally viewed as a Play-In caliber team in the East but the fast-paced offense to begin the season spread optimism regarding their playoff chances. Now, they're back hovering just above .500.

CBS Sports released an article, giving midseason grades to every Eastern Conference team. The Heat received a mediocre "B-" grade.

"There's a reason Erik Spoelstra is the longest tenured head coach in major American sports right now, and the Heat are once again in the mix for a playoff spot in the East in spite of some roster limitations," the article wrote. "The defense is among the league's best once again, anchored by Bam Adebayo, and that gives them a chance most nights. The Heat are still No. 1 in the league in pace, but teams have adjusted and they've slipped back to the bottom half of the league. As well as Norman Powell has played, mitigating the absence of Tyler Herro for much of the season, the Heat's lack of high-level facilitators puts a cap on how effective they can be offensively. Adebayo in particular has struggled offensively without a high-end table setter to get him the ball in his spots."

Being above the .500 mark may not have been expected throughout the preseason but this season has still a big improvement for the Heat considering the team dealt their star player last season. However, there is still some cause for concern.

"They might've peaked early in the season, as the offense has come back to earth dramatically after a red-hot start," the article added. "Bam Adebayo hasn't been particularly impactful offensively and Tyler Herro hasn't found his All-Star level from a year ago since returning to the lineup."

Adebayo is continuing to be the strong defensive anchor similar to years past but there at least are some young stars making big leaps. Kel'el Ware and Adebayo are co-existing nicely on the court together and Jaime Jaquez Jr. is playing similar to his rookie campaign where he was a Rookie of the Year contender.

The Heat currently sit as the No. 8 seed in the Eastern Conference. They may need to make a splash if they want to establish themselves as one of the stronger teams in the conference. Lucky for them, there seems to be a plethora of talent on the trade block this season.
