As the Miami Heat look to get their season in order, especially after securing back-to-back victories against the Atlanta Hawks and Indiana Pacers, Norman Powell continues his All-Star trajectory. The 32-year-old is on pace to surpass last season's career-high stats, currently averaging 23.7 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.3 steals while shooting 47.6 percent from the field, 39.9 percent from behind the arc.
The 11-year veteran stated before the season began that his personal goal was to make the All-Star team after being snubbed the previous year. The voting has already opened and it's trending in the right direction for the Heat guard. Powell has earned 100,390 votes in the league's first returns among Eastern Conference players.
When it comes to this list, it's never perfect.
Powell has appeared in 27 games so far this season, which is more than five players ahead of him:
- Joel Embiid (PHI) - 13
- OG Anunoby (NYK) - 21
- Michael Porter Jr. (BKN) - 25
- Giannis Antetokounmpo (MIL) - 18
- LaMelo Ball (CHA) - 19
He's averaging more points than nine players ahead of him:
- Emiid (PHI) - 21.8
- Josh Hart (NYK) - 12.3
- Mikal Bridges (NYK) - 16.7
- Josh Giddey (CHI) - 19.5
- Anunoby (NYK) - 15.1
- Brandon Ingram (TOR) - 22
- Ball (CHA) - 19.7
- Pascal Siakam (IND) - 23.4
- Karl-Anthony Towns (NYK) - 22.3
Also, the Heat currently have a better record in the Eastern Conference standings than the Cleveland Cavaliers, Chicago Bulls, Atlanta Hawks, Milwaukee Bucks, Charlotte Hornets, Brooklyn Nets, and Indiana Pacers, with Powell being one of the sole reasons for their success earlier this season. He's the most deserving of being named an All-Star on the roster.
Bam Adebayo, who's been honored three times throughout his career, hasn't been consistent this season to make a case. Tyler Herro, who was named an All-Star for the first time last year, hasn't appeared in nearly enough games, only six thus far.
The most recent example of a player being named an All-Star later in their career is Mike Conley in 2021, while a member of the Utah Jazz. He was 33 years old and averaged 16.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, six assists, 1.4 steals, and shot 44.4 percent from the field, 41.2 percent from three-point range.
Powell has a tremendous case to be named an All-Star and should earn more votes as the returns continue, especially within the Eastern Conference. The next one is set for January 6th, 2026. The game will take place in the Intuit Dome, home of the Los Angeles Clippers, on February 15th, 2026.
