Gabe Vincent highlights Davion Mitchell’s offensive impact, but Pelle Larsson could prove even more vital to the Miami Heat's championship aspirations.
MIAMI, Fla. – In a recent interview with former professional basketball player Trey Mourning, Gabe Vincent labeled Davion Mitchell as the Miami Heat’s X-factor for the 2026-27 season, specifically on the offensive side of the court.
“It’s going to be Giannis, then Klay setting the screens, and Davion becomes your X-factor entirely,” he said. “If Davion’s not making threes, it’s going to look very different.”
The 28-year-old is coming off a productive season as a full-time starting point guard. Mitchell averaged 9.3 points on 49 percent shooting, 2.7 rebounds, 6.5 assists (a new career high), and a steal in 70 games (all starts). He certainly has an opportunity to take another step in production, playing alongside serious star power.
However, Mitchell might not be the biggest X-factor.
Pelle Larsson is projected to leap and play a significant role on the Heat’s bench unit. The 25-year-old is coming off a remarkable stint in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 European Qualifiers. In four matches, Larsson averaged 26 points on 42.9 percent, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists. He scored 31 points in back-to-back games against Slovenia and Finland.
The former second-round pick has an opportunity to win both Sixth Man of the Year and Most Improved Player in the same season, which would be the first since Darrell Armstrong in 1998-99.
Mitchell has an opportunity to make national noise as well. Playing with several All-Stars, opposing defenses are likely willing to leave him open from all over the court. Mitchell will be able to cut to the basket or shoot from behind the arc. He’ll make defenses pay; meanwhile, the stars are looking to dominate.
Vincent understands what it takes to find success in the Heat’s system. He had four remarkable years with the organization, including a breakthrough in the 2022-23 season. Vincent averaged 9.4 points on 40.2 percent shooting, 2.1 rebounds, and 2.5 assists in 68 games. He emerged as a starter towards the second half of the season.
In the playoffs, Vincent stepped his game up under the bright lights. In 22 games, including a trip to the NBA Finals, he averaged 12.7 points on 40.2 percent shooting, 1.4 rebounds, and 3.5 assists. Vincent was a Heat X-factor, along with Max Strus, Caleb Martin, and Haywood Highsmith.
Mitchell will play an important role, but Larsson appears to be the biggest difference-maker.
The Heat are among the favorites to win the Eastern Conference Finals and compete for a championship. Every contender needs an X-factor and Larsson fits the profile more.
