Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has been ruled out for the season because of blood clots on his lungs. It is the same ailment that caused ex-Miami Heat star Chris Bosh to retire from the NBA.

The Miami Heat know all about the situation the Philadelphia Eagles are dealing with for quarterback Jalen Hurts.

On Monday, it was announced that quarterback Jalen Hurts will miss the remainder of the season due to blood clots discovered on his lungs. The Heat dealt with the same situation regarding ex-All-Star Chris Bosh, who had the same condition in 2015. It later led to Bosh having to retire.

The condition ended a promising career. After playing seven years with the Toronto Raptors, Bosh joined the Heat when LeBron James decided to team up with Dwyane Wade.

The group, dubbed the Heatles and the Big Three, was a pairing of three of the league's top 10 players. It led to one of the greatest eras in Heat history. They won two championships in four straight appearances in the NBA Finals.

After losing to the Dallas Mavericks in the first season, they won back-to-back crowns against the Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs. The run ended with a loss to the Spurs in the 2014 Finals. Afterward, James left Miami to return to play for the Cleveland Cavaliers again.

The James departure was supposedly the start of the Bosh era of being the Heat's top player. They pegged him as the leading man but it never materialized. Problems arose when Bosh was first diagnosed during the NBA All-Star Weekend.

Initially, the Heat thought everything was cleared after Bosh was placed on blood thinners. Things changed once they returned despite the medication. Bosh never returned to the court.

He eventually retired in 2019.

It's way too early to tell if Hurts is headed toward the same outcome. But his playing days could be numbered because of the physicality of football. The Eagles only hope is technology has improved since the Bosh incident but that is unlikely.

The Bosh setback impacted the Heat for quite some time. After being on top of the Eastern Conference for so many years, the Heat struggled in mediocrity for a few years. Things didn't change until they acquired Jimmy Butler in the summer of 2019 from the Philadelphia 76ers.

In the Butler era, the Heat made an appearance in the 2020 Finals during the "bubble" season. They lost to the LeBron James-led Los Angeles Lakers but remained a contender in the East. In 2023, they reached the Finals again but lost to the Denver Nuggets in five games.
