Plagued by injuries and trade rumors, Tyler Herro faces an uncertain future as Pat Riley hunts for a superstar to revitalize the Miami Heat's championship aspirations this offseason.

Miami, FL. – Part of the Miami Heat’s underwhelming season was partially due to Tyler Herro’s lack of availability. Despite averaging 20.5 points on 48 percent shooting, 37.8 percent from behind the arc, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.1 assists, the former All-Star only appeared in 33 games, including 28 starts. He missed the first 17 games of the season while recovering from offseason foot surgical repair, then sat through several stretches because of toe or rib injuries.

Herro was looking to prove himself this past season after the Heat weren’t urgent to get a contract extension done last summer. He was eligible for a three-year, $149.7 million deal until the Oct. 20, 2025, deadline. However, given the latest injuries, it’s difficult to say the Heat will confidently present a strong offer to Herro’s representatives, James Schwartz and Mike Lindeman of Excel Sports Management.

Given the lack of star power, franchise President Pat Riley will be hunting for a “whale” this summer. However, any chance of landing one would likely require giving up Herro in a potential trade. He will be under an expiring contract for next season, owed $33 million, with no future player or club option.

As the Heat grow desperate to acquire a superstar, Sun Sentinel’s Ira Winderman believes that Herro understands that this summer could mark the end of a seven-year tenure.

“I think Tyler Herro thinks he has [played his final Heat game],” he said on WQAM radio. “I think it’s just been too much. It’s been nonstop, it’s been assessed. You can say, ‘Wait a minute, you only showed up for 33 games this year, you have no right in that.’ When you hear every single year that you’re going to be moved somewhere else, I think it wears on you. I don’t think Tyler Herro can be his best self in Miami. I think he’s been knocked down too many times.”

The Heat is looking to return to championship contention, but it won’t happen as currently constructed. A drastic change is needed, which is where a superstar is supposed to come into play. They’re already linked to former Finals MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, for whom the Milwaukee Bucks are reportedly open to hearing offers. Franchise owner Jimmy Haslam told the media that the situation with the 10-time All-Star will likely be resolved by the upcoming NBA Draft, which starts on June 23 and ends the following day.

Herro’s days with the Heat are likely numbered.
