The Miami Heat fell to the Houston Rockets on Saturday night with a 123-122 score, marking their fourth straight loss. The Rockets remain one of the stronger teams in the Western Conference at the No. 4 seed with a 43-27 record. The Heat won their last matchup at the tail-end of Feb. but Houston came away with the victory this time around. Miami was without multiple players in this matchup such as Andrew Wiggins, Norman Powell and Jaime Jaquez Jr. Wiggins has been sidelined for the last eight games with a toe injury while Powell is day-to-day with a calf injury. The All-Star recently returned to the court last week after missing some games with a groin injury. Jaquez missed his second straight game with a hip injury.
For the Heat, Bam Adebayo was the leading points scorer with 31 points along with 21 rebounds. He continues his strong season as one of the better centers in basketball. Following Adebayo in terms of points scored was Tyler Herro with 25 points. Herro has surpassed the 20-point marker in seven out of his last eight games. Herro has been sidelined for much of the season but when he is on the court, he has been scoring at an elite level. Simone Fontecchio was the third leading scorer with 21 points with an impressive 55 percent shooting from three-point range. He has been one of the more unsung heroes of the rotation, especially recently with the numerous injuries to the rotation. Fontecchio, Pelle Larsson and Davion Mitchell rounded out the starting lineup opposite Adebayo and Herro.
For the Rockets, Kevin Durant was unsurprisingly the team's leading scorer with 27 points. However, 2024 first-round pick Reed Sheppard had the strongest stat-line for Houston with 23 points along with 14 assists. The game went back-and-forth in terms of leads but the Rockets continue their strong late-game plans and squeaked out a close one.
The Heat continue to sit in the playoff picture even with their recent stretch of losses. They are currently the No. 9 seed in the Eastern Conference standings with a 38-33 record. If they can get back on track, they can sneak back into the legitimate playoff hunt and not a Play-In spot. Getting guys like Wiggins, Powell and Jaquez back would go a long way to making that happen. Miami's next matchup will be on Monday night when they host the red-hot San Antonio Spurs.
