Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green appeared to take a shot at former teammate Klay Thompson when he joined the Miami Heat
Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green is arguably the most outspoken player in NBA history.
He is one of the first players ever to have a podcast while he was active in the league. He also gives post-game analysis after games.
So, naturally, he chimed in when his former teammate Klay Thompson joined the Heat last week. He basically shot down the move by saying Thompson was no longer the player he was when helping the Warriors win four NBA titles. That drew a strong reaction from several around the league, most recently media personality Emmanuel Acho.
He was critical of Green for coming at Thompson, especially when they are supposed to be friends.
“Draymond doesn’t realize that he just dissed Klay while trying to protect Klay," Acho said. "I understand Draymond’s intentions, but the execution is so, so, so terrible. Any of us trying to act like Klay going to Miami is a big deal is because we still have high hopes for Klay Thompson.”
At 36, Thompson obviously isn't the player he once was. His ability took a hit when he sustained Achilles and ACL injuries in consecutive years. At one point, he missed nearly two full seasons because of the setbacks.
It led to Thompson leaving behind fellow Splash Brother Stephen Curry and Green. He joined the Dallas Mavericks with hopes of winning another championship, but the move didn't go as planned. In fact, Thompson had the worst season of his career last year with the Mavericks.
The hope is he gets a new life with the Heat. He joins a team that some are calling championship-ready because of the presence of Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo, which is arguably the best front court in the NBA.
So, perhaps, this gives Thompson an opportunity to prove Green wrong and move past him in the rings department.
