With the recent ups-and-downs of the Miami Heat, their upcoming first-round draft selection could be inside the lottery. This draft class is expected to be one of the deepest in recent memory.

Bleacher Report released their updated first-round mock draft before the conclusion of the NCAA tournament. In their projection, Miami holds the No. 13 selection, just inside the lottery and select Baylor Bears guard Cameron Carr. In a prior mock draft from Bleacher Report, the guard is compared to Devin Vassell, a 2020 first-round pick who has had a solid career with the San Antonio Spurs as a three-and-d type of player.

"With free agency awaiting Norman Powell and another round of potentially awkward talks perhaps sitting ahead of Tyler Herro, Miami might need to think backcourt here," the article wrote. "The draft board still needs to break right, obviously, but it does here with the athletic, sweet-shooting Carr making a decent case as the best prospect on the board. The closer this talent grab gets, the earlier you'll see Carr getting mocked. He may not have layers upon layers of skills, but a 6'5" net-shredder with bounce sort of sells itself. And getting to Miami could be great for him, since the Heat's conditioning program might be exactly what he needs to fill out his 175-pound frame."

Baylor’s season fell short compared to the program’s recent success, but Carr was a clear bright spot. The guard put up 19.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game while shooting an efficient 51 percent from the field and 39.4 percent from beyond the arc. A four-star recruit in ESPN’s 2023 class, Carr was ranked as the No. 91 prospect nationally.

If the Miami Heat decide to move on from Tyler Herro this offseason, Carr could be a logical target in the draft. Herro is entering the final year of his contract, making him a strong trade candidate. Miami’s backcourt has been inconsistent in recent seasons although the team has received solid production from Herro, albeit a short sample size this season, and newcomer Norman Powell. With Powell also on an expiring deal and potentially heading to free agency, the Heat could be facing significant turnover. In that scenario, Carr could potentially step in right away and carve out a role in Miami’s rotation.
