The Miami Heat officially secured the No. 13 pick in next month’s draft after a mediocre season, marking the first time the franchise will select inside the lottery since drafting a little-known guard named Tyler Herro in 2019. With this year’s class considered especially deep, several notable prospects are expected to still be available when Miami is on the clock. This draft class is viewed as one of the strongest in recent memory and the Heat could have the opportunity to add a legitimate contributor to the rotation in the middle of the first round.

Following last week's confirmation of the draft lottery, Bleacher Report unveiled their updated mock draft. With the No. 13 pick in the draft, the Heat are predicted to select Baylor Bears guard Cameron Carr.

"The deeper into any mock you get, the less clarity the crystal ball shows," the article wrote. "Miami could go any number of different directions here, but Carr could get the nod both for his own outlook and the fact the Heat may need a perimeter scorer depending on how they handle Norman Powell's free agency and Tyler Herro's extension talks. Carr looks ready for a three-and-D role, but he's also the kind of prospect who could make that label look a little too restrictive. It captures his ignitable shooting and defensive playmaking, but it perhaps undersells his explosiveness, straight-line driving and powerful finishing."

Baylor had a rather disappointing season, unlike the school's recent stretch of strong campaigns, but Carr stood out. The guard averaged 19.2 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.7 assists while shooting 51 percent from the field and 39.4 percent from three-point range. Carr was rated as a four-star recruit in the class of 2023 ESPN recruitment rankings and was viewed as the 91st best prospect in the nation.

If the Heat move on from Tyler Herro this summer, Carr could be an easy player for the Heat to eye in the draft. Herro is not under contract following next season so he is a prime trade candidate this offseason. Norman Powell will also hit free agency, leaving a void from a true backcourt scorer. Carr could enter the rotation and contribute immediately opposite Kasparas Jakucionis and Davion Mitchell if Herro and Powell are both gone by October.
