The Miami Heat's recent stretch of wins will presumably net them a first-round pick just outside the lottery. This draft class is viewed as one of the strongest in recent memory and the Heat could have the opportunity to add a legitimate contributor to the rotation.

Bleacher Report released their updated first-round mock draft following the first round of the NCAA tournament. In their projection, Miami holds the No. 17 selection, just outside the lottery and select Baylor Bears guard Cameron Carr. In a prior mock draft from Bleacher Report, the guard is compared to Devin Vassell, a 2020 first-round pick who has had a solid career with the San Antonio Spurs as a three-and-d type of player.

"Carr has size (6'5"), length (7'2" wingspan), athleticism, and a fiery three-ball. Even if his skill tree never branches out, that's already an interesting combination for a support guard," the article wrote. "If he harnesses any kind of defensive playmaking—and you know the Heat would work him hard on that end—he could be a real steal, since he might already be an asset as a play-finisher."

Baylor had a rather disappointing season, unlike the school's recent stretch of strong campaigns, but Carr stood out. The guard averaged 19.2 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.7 assists while shooting 51 percent from the field and 39.4 percent from three-point range. Carr was rated as a four-star recruit in the class of 2023 ESPN recruitment rankings and was viewed as the 91st best prospect in the nation.

If the Heat move on from Tyler Herro this summer, Carr could be an easy player for the Heat to eye in the draft. Herro is not under contract following next season so he is a prime trade candidate this offseason. The Heat have had plenty of issues in the backcourt over the past couple of seasons. The Terry Rozier situation obviously did not work out in Miami's favor although the team has had success from Herro and recent acquisition Norman Powell. Powell is on an expiring contract, meaning he could enter free agency. If Herro and Powell are both gone, Carr could have an immediate role if he joins the Heat's rotation.
