The Miami Heat will be one team looking to make a big move this summer. After striking out multiple times for players such as Damian Lillard and Kevin Durant when they were both included in trade discussions, the Heat will have the opportunity to add a big-name star with their assets this offseason. The team has multiple tradable first-round draft picks along with a good amount of both veterans with hefty contracts and young stars who have value.
Bleacher Report proposed an offseason trade between the Heat and the Los Angeles Clippers. The proposal is:
Heat receive: F Kawhi Leonard
Clippers receive: G Tyler Herro, C Kel'el Ware, F Jaime Jaquez Jr., G Dru Smith and a 2029 first-round pick
"When the Los Angeles Clippers surprisingly moved both James Harden and Ivica Zubac, some understandably wondered if Kawhi Leonard would be next," the article wrote. "Several of the teams that may have been in the market for Giannis Antetokounmpo could've repurposed much of what they intended to offer Milwaukee for him and instead offered it to L.A. Miami, of course, could've been such a team, with plenty of young talent and a little draft capital to offer, too. In this case, there's only one pick going out because Leonard (who's 34) is older and has a more concerning injury history than Giannis. Miami's resulting core would still be a potential contender in the East, with Kawhi, Bam Adebayo, Norman Powell and Andrew Wiggins, but the title window wouldn't be open too wide. For the Clippers, this deal would better equip them for the next era, with plenty of talent, from a variety of positions, to surround Darius Garland and Bennedict Mathurin."
The Clippers started the season as one of the worst teams in the entire league, even behind the strong tandem of Leonard and James Harden. However, they slowly began crawling back to the .500 mark but quickly changed the trajectory of their season by moving Harden and Ivica Zubac at the trade deadline. Meanwhile, despite all the turmoil surrounding the Clippers this year, Leonard has been having a stellar campaign and is on pace to play the most games in a season since he joined the team in 2019.
The Heat will presumably be chasing Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Anteotkounmpo this summer but adding a player of Leonard's caliber would certainly not just be a consolation prize. Alongside Bam Adebayo, he would catapult the Heat to Eastern Conference contenders if Miami were to make a move similar to this.
